Another question:how do you report a player? I want to report this player. Here is the link to his user profile. Scroll down to the bottom where you see his games. He has played 210. Won 209 and drew 1 game?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! THis is a practically impossible record.

Sorry, I won't post anymore links. I didn't know. But I'll report him.

Um we don't publish suspicion in the forums, especially this forum topic. But to answer your question, if you click on that link, and go to the footer of the page, you'll see the "Report Abuse" link. It's right between "Report Bugs" and "Advertise" on line 1 of the footer.

I would encourage you to edit your above post to remove the link and the name of the player, as well.

TheGrobe

Probably not a bad idea to edit the user's profile out of your post.

Baseballfan

Please use the "Report Abuse" link at the bottom of the page to report players, please don't do it publically. ;-)

yes

Yeah, for most players with a FIDE strength of 2000+, playing only 1500 and lower on here (and not new players) will give you an incredibly sparkling record.

Don't worry, there are enough idiots who cheat in tactics trainer also!

How the hell do you cheat in tactics trainer? And what about the guy who is on first place in tactics, rated 3051. Is that a chess genius or what? Or are the cheating detection methods only work for actual played games? Hmmmm.....

TheGrobe

Other than to brefily puzzle over what possible motivations someone might have to do so, I really don't think we need to care about cheaters in tactics trainer.  It's a victimless crime, and although maybe indicative of a behavioural pattern possibly exhibited by the individual elsewhere on the site, focusing any time and energy on detecting and punishing people for artificially boosting their tactics trainer performance is an unnecessary diversion of resources from dealing with cheaters where they do affect others: in games with honest players.

You cheat by plugging the position into a chess engine on the long positions and doing the same thing on the short ones although you run out of time.  You still get points.  Or on the short ones, you could attempt the problem and get half of those right and all of them right on the longer ones.  Then your rating will go up.

Oh come on, can you really not think of a different analogy?

Re: Capablanca coming on Chess.com to play> That is funnier than the advice given in the newsletter to the Senior Center that has mostly 70 year olds and up:  "Buy your mother a flower or take her out to dinner. "

That would take a heck of a lot of digging.

Whether Cheating is an issue: It is a general issue and therefore also in chess.

This site requests that politics be kept out so I will comment no further except

that many times in many professions it seems Grantland Rice's admonition has been forgotten.  If the ardent efforts of Chess.com have limited the incidence of fraudulent play to .1 percent it proves the inverse relationship between presence of police and crime, whatever the neighborhood.

 Agreed

I have a big question: it is known that the usage of databases is allowed. But, any database? If I put Fritz to battle Rybka on two computers, starting from the position after 10 moves in major openings, and make a database consisting of these games, would it be allowed? Or, if the database consists of the games played by the recent correspondence players (who are all cyborgs), is that allowed? I think that the two examples above would depart quite a lot from the usual term database, which I understand as "collection of games played between two humans".

I think that the common measure would be great for all: the only database allowed is the chess.com database. Now there is an easy way to search it. Maybe I should make a special forum topic about this, as this is not a discussion about cheating.

I think only opening databases are allowed, as I don't think Fritz or Rybka would be considered databases. Databases, in my opinion, is a program which catalogues previously played games, and shows first, second, and third choices and win percentages based on the other games. Fritz and Rybka are basically chess computers, which I think is cheating.

costelus

It seems that the discussion about database limits was found OK by the staff members. So, if you would like to express an opinion about it, please go to

This topic is already way too large :)
