Does knowing Chess help you in arguments?

Does anyone ever think, hmm they're attacking me with this accusation, so I'll block them with X or ignore what they've said and counterattack with Y.

Best wishes for the weekend from the XXX pub in London.

If you are referring to comments on online articles, then definitely not.  A lot of people not only avoid your comments but they have a complete disregard for facts.  it is hard to have a well thought out friendly discussion when the other person is questioning the moon landing.

I suppose I do block and counter but I'm not sure chess helps, I can't seem to win an arguement with the wife, even when I'm right and she doesn't play chess, she just crushes me into submission with her stubborness. 😧😧😧😧

Best wishes for the weekend from my armchair, just about to watch the footy ⚽ 🍺🍺🍺🍺

That's probably cos your wife was right.

Duh? Um OK. Good night. I bet you play better chess than me.

Chess has nothing to do with arguments. In chess, the winner is the one who can make the best response to their opponent's moves. In an argument, the winner is usually the one who is the most stubborn

I like to add a bigger voice and deeper vocabulary helps. Speaking in foreign language wins wink.png

Yeah  possibly, it has been known. Tried using a foreign language as well, nope! Stubborness wins.😭😭

Rather not, at least not that directly, However, it might help you with logical thinking. (That may, but must not help you in an argument, where other "qualities" are required, too ...)

Here's an example of what I mean.

Today I played a Blitz game against a stronger player. He made an aggressive move and I immediately played a defensive one. After I lost the computer pointed out that instead of defending I could have made a simple counter-attacking move and got the better position, but I had never even thought about that. And in arguments I often do the same thing, that is, I try to defend myself from verbal attacks, so I'm letting the other guy set the agenda.

This makes it all sound much heavier and stressful than it actually is happy.png I just wondered if chess games and arguments are very similar, and techniques you use in one of them can be used in the other.

@AlFiziro

LOL

Great contribution!

Control the center and you'll be fine. Whatever she says, whatever he says, whatever. That's center control for you.

Develop, attack, and control the center.

Example:

d4... they never landed on the moon...

Develop - you might be right, you know. You ever noticed how that Mars footage looks just like earth on Photoshop.

Control center- but what if they actually did land, and now they're secretly spreading rumors that it was false so that when they migrate to a new planet they leave us behind thinking it was all a joke. Think about it.

😊 argument won.

No.

AlFiziro must be very clever because I never understand what he is talking about. I just nod my head intelligently.

You're not the only one who doesn't have a clue what he saying. 😦
