If someone joins through an official invite link sent through the site (trough the member invite system) and subsequently purchases premium, then I believe that still gets a benefit for the referral.
It used to be possible to add an entry when joining that tells who referred you, and the same thing happened.

You have to refer a member, they have to use your referral link to create the account, and they have to purchase a premium membership.
I paid thousands for people who couldn't afford it. I never even got a ty. Oh well. : (((
