"maybe you are the issue man".        If Al can get Erik's ear, I'm all for having him represent the members' issues.

to review-only because of how this thread has turned, and your interest in a new topic mentioned by rjc-https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/gift-from-chess-com?newCommentCount=3&page=1

  • i asked why the chess board was suddenly smaller. jdcannon said it was due to new features. he never described them and vacated the topic.
  • i started a tournament where i asked if there was a function to invite friends only. a staff member told me it was a great idea. when i asked if it would be implemented, no response.
  • the topics/posts about limiting consecutive posting received no response from staff. it was put in place and then changed after what appeared to be significant pushback.
  • the confusion about the red banner has never been addressed. even in this topic there are members making assumptions about what will trigger a mute. yet, no one knows. do you, erik?
  • the integration of the 'bad' or 'poor' sport was never explained. how is it possible that a function such as this is put into place and questions on it are ignored?
  • i, and others, were shut out of games with a banner that told us we haven't played enough, and, we are not allowed to challenge titled players. even a titled player got this!
  • i sent in two tickets asking why i could not play live chess. i never received a response.
  • the automutes have gotten out of hand. remember ghost of pushwood? he was muted at one time for writing 'b00bs'. he has had enough and gone to another site. no big deal except he is a titled player that could help many.

drspudnik put forth a good idea for dealing with a post instead of muting where all posts vanish. with all of the new stuff you do-achievements, flair, puzzle rush, i don't think it's far fetched that it could not be done. at the very least, you could respond if it is so.

in post #120 you wrote, "some fair criticisms".

then, in #131 you wrote, "  I think the OP makes some great points. Communicating with our members is a challenge, and we can do better."

that was in october 2019.

in the link i cite you now seem to state i have an agenda. if i have one, it is to make the site better.

everyone allow that to sink in for a few moments. if you do not get it, please do not post.

it is obvious that he is ignoring you

True wouldn't he have responded now? That's 725 posts and still no answer!

The bottom line from the other thread seems to be that the site is barely in the black.  So only important things get attention. Totally reasonable.

A question was what were the really important things.  Couldn't have been v3, themes, achievements and flairs, right?  Maybe it's too late to turn back?

AlCzervik!

I'm sorry. I've been super busy. We are doing a lot of new things, creating a lot of new features, hiring people, and meanwhile, we have seen a MASSIVE influx of users to Chess.com due to global shutdown (see GIF below). So... those are my top priorities. Let me answer what I can.

- the chessboard is smaller because we are working on consolidating the interface. I understand this does impact some people who have very small screens. I hope that we can bring FOCUS mode to this sometime soon to address it.

- inviting all of your friends to a tournament is a great idea. it happens to be one of thousands of good ideas we have in the IDEA list. we have millions of members. many of them have really good ideas. but we don't have millions of people working here. we have to triage and prioritize, and we do it based on how impactful the idea will be for the largest number of users. your suggestion is not at the top of that list yet.

- we did fix the "consecutive topics" issue based on community feedback. frankly, we don't have enough time to communicate every single change on the site. we DO make changes, and DO get feedback especially in the BETA club. we love the feedback. but we change so many things every single week we just don't run a full community feedback loop on every single thing.

- if you are getting a red banner, please use the HELP->REPORT A BUG. that will get our developer attention. frankly I am out of the loop on what this means.

- our "poor sport" policy is here:https://www.chess.com/community . people who don't follow that can end up with restricted privileges.

- if you messaged us at https://support.chess.com and did NOT receive a response, I am truly sorry for that. can you forward me a copy of that message so I can look at the ticket and see what happened?

- auto-muting is an important part of keeping things safe and friendly at chess.com. frankly, there is no reason to be discussing b00bs on a chess site, especially publicly or with someone you don't know. if you want to talk about that with friends that is fine, and messages between friends are not monitored. but more often than not, words like that are used to harass or demean others. that is why they are blocked and I'm not sorry about that.

- drspudnik should post his greate idea at Help->Make a Suggestion and that will go to our triage team to be prioritized.

We are trying to do better with our community updates. Examples:

https://www.chess.com/news/view/chess-com-month-in-review-february-2020

Thank you for your feedback. These are incredibly busy times for us and we are trying to hold it all together.

4 pages gone.  Somebody got muted.

AlCzervik

erik!

thanks for finally coming back! please don't be a stranger!

i do not have copies of the support tickets i sent in, sorry. i can tell you they were about receiving a notification in live chess that i was not allowed to play or challenge titled players because i hadn't played enough games. this has happened to other players as well, even a titled player! this is what is displayed: You are unable to challenge Titled and other protected players until you have played more games.

the red banner is this: Your post seems to not fit our Community Guidelines. Repeated violations may result in your account being restricted. Thank you for helping Chess.com stay a fun and friendly place for all!

it zaps the whole post due to a word or group of words that the autobot deems violates tos. it would be an understatement to say that it needs work. one member was automuted for writing h o m o sapien (spaces used purposely to not get muted). When i wrote, "now h o m o sapien is a bad word?" i was muted instantly.

the "b00bs" remark by gop was in the context of, "you are acting like a buncha b00bs!". it was a tongue in cheek remark.

and, the autobot has been in use with both pm's and game chat. you seem to be saying it is not, and, if it has been changed, thanks!

finally, my thinking (rare, yes) is that topics like this, and those in h & s, are better at reporting than sending in tickets, especially if some (like mine) are ignored.

for example, some mods (and some members) here are quick to explain to people how things 'work'. this eliminates time a staff member would use (waste). another way i think topics are superior to individual tickets is that a staff member can read multiple perspectives on issues that may lead to a quicker fix.

and since when was it decided that support can refuse to respond to support tickets ?

sorry guys, but professional websites don’t have a support structure like that.

For sure. That is not our policy.

Is this the thread where you got auto-muted Al?

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-com-community/hi-guys-i-was-was-muted-for-not-saying-any-thing-bad-47063324

There are evidently 3 posts piled up and whited out at the end of the thread.

-The red banner pops up when you are quoting a post where something got past the filter. I have hit it a number of times and got auto-muted several times. I guess I expect to be able to quote a post without setting off the warning. the red banner is this: Your post seems to not fit our Community Guidelines. Repeated violations may result in your account being restricted. Thank you for helping Chess.com stay a fun and friendly place for all!

Many people are frustrated but what can chess.com do about it .

AlCzervik

notmark, yes.

since i have written about the mutes, red banners, and bots, i have seen quite a few assumptions about when they happen. without any explanation, it is wrong to make blanket statements that mutes happen after five or ten zapped posts.

i don't think anyone really knows.

52yrral

And the bots will never tell!
