Hello TetsuoShima ! (are you into tortoises?)

Just google Budgerigars and away you go!  Easy-Campese! (Thats a reference from  RugbyUnion of 20 years ago!)

These (below) aren't Budgies: they're Cassowaries (Casuarius casuarius).
After the female lays the eggs, she's out of there! Dad does the rest- from brooding, hatching, feeding, protecting, etceteraetcetera, for about the next seven months.
He is one serious bloke! A decent kick would rip you in two-or three-or four... The all-time Father of the Year!
I'm not sure what their opinion of a 12 yearolds' Chess dreams/ambitions (just to stay On Topic) but I'd agree every time with the Cassowary.

A dove, I suspect but you'll have to enlighten me on exactly which avian it is.
Aren't doves lovely?! In a previous human incarnation a Diamond Dove (Geopelia cuneata) shared our flat. They're the world's smallest dove.
During the Sydney Olympics, he'd sit on my Akubra (that archetypal Aussie hat) and "coo-ah" during the finals. His name was Devlin and he made life almost perfect (sort of...).
This little critter (below) isn't he. In fact I suspect he's a she! But you get the picture (HaHa). Devlin would only retreat to his cage when it was time for bed.
Unfortunately he wasn't very good at Chess (just to stay On Topic). But I bet he'd give any aspiring GM lots of dovey-encouragement and heaps of unquestioned support no matter how fantastic the ambition.

Timbeau is the most off topic guy ever

timbeau

Whadda you mean! Its all about Chess. (ahem)
I grant you that it doesn't have the novelty and spontaneity of, perhaps...  "Stalemate should be abolished" or "Chess is stupid because you can't kill the King!" But then original thought is such a rarity.

(is this where I put "lol"?!)

(This is where I put) LOL!

My apologies  TestuoShima : I was thinking of Testudo...
And just to stay On Topic...the tortoise is not bad at Chess but often have serious troubles with the clock. So, let that humble -sorry: magnificent!- reptile be a lesson to you Atomic_Rift:  should always play every game with the chess clock alongside, in your quest for GM-ship.

timbeau

Ah...  SPARTANEMISIS (as a god, with great Shouting: he appears! As ever.) .
So that's where you put the "LOL". Well...
This topic -just to stay "ON" it... kicked off by a young bloke who's  enamoured of Chess and was sort of 'touching base' (as you Amercans say,  as do we here too but without that cause thing -that cultural cause as do you. More culturallyimperially perhaps?: but tht's another Topic altogether).
It was that comments: /who is julia? / his gf i think/ (This is where I put) LOL!  In particular that partivular gf abbreviation that makes me wonder whether gf is a regular netdevice.
Red Hell and Bloody Death!I've now lost 2 consecutive 'edits' and theer was something I really wanted to say. Oh well...  Gone 2 in the morning and I guess bed is becoming obviouss

SPARTANEMESIS

Obviously.

timbeau

That was disturbing.
It was that answer to "who's Julia" that did it.
And what happened to the dove-stuff TetsuoShima ?
And to stay on topic - what's happened to all the positive affirmations and chess ambition all you cheer-leaders...?!

I resent that!

timbeau

Now that's what I call a coincidence!

I suppose that being so labelled, at least it's still on topic.

timbeau

So, Atomic_Rift, how's the Chess coming along?

Fine thanks. I'm a 1527 is tactics. :)

Cool - its encouraging to know you're still getting into it!

I see you're also a Beatles-affecionado. I actually saw them play, in Sydney, in 1964 (all these  years and thats the best I can come up with!) And I remember nothing at all, except screaming, stupid noise. Of course, in later years I came to prefer the Stones -and pretended I always had. It was the cooler by far! And the girls....

It was about then I learnt chess. And also to swim properly, from the legendary coach Forbes Carlile(ask somone near-dead to explain. A Canadian ?... another Commonwealth member could well know! Or there's Google, I guess.)
My brother it was taught who me chess.  He would beat me at Chess for decades but after a year: never again in the pool.

I don't know which has given me more ...pleasure(if that's the word?) I think for viscreal pleasure, of course it's the water: especially the surf. Body-surfing is almost the best of any/everything!
Chess is different:  Sublime - maybe that's the word? No. It can so approach the ...essence.
And to keep On Topic...you keep it sharp with the Sport of Emporers, Atomic_Rift !
Perhaps a game sometime...?

Wow! Laughing  Was that the tour with the fake Ringo (because the real one had the flu or something)?

Oh yes! Chess is very fun!

Yeah! xD That's from my Dad. He loves them and now I'm getting into them. :)

Cool, my Dad taught me chess, and he has taught me well but now I'm starting to overtake him.

Haha. :D You're more daring then I am! I love staying inside with a chessboard and presumably a good chess player! ;)

Sure! I'd like that! :)

According to my mum -I did mention the memory bit?- the luckiest 'drummer' in the world certainly was...performing.

AndyClifton

Wow...sounds like a bit of a sneer at Ringo there.
