How to avoid the game-draggers?

Apparently not.  I once informed the staff that my opponent was cheating in a game against me.  I was told that she was a known cheater who had once before been banned for cheating.  Yet somehow she now had a new account, there was no warning to keep away as this is a cheater, and, in her game against me, if you contorted your eyes just right, in just the right light, then you could miss the obvious cheating.  And so no action was taken.  She was allowed to win that game.  Unbelievable.

Do you still have the game?

Vance917

I did not save it, but my understanding is that the archives will keep it anyway.  I am reluctant to mention her name here, but I will note that 1) the "proof" of her cheating lies not in that game per se but rather in the comparison of how she played that game relative to how she played all of her other games (so it was obvious that she got help with this game, even if that help came from a better player who still made some mistakes, and not from a computer that made no mistakes at all) and 2) she was also incredibly rude to me, otherwise I wouldn't have even cared that she was cheating.

Going back to the part of over 500 games...I looked at his games to make sure and I have had the pleasure of dealing with the same person.  Not only does he have 550 games going, he sets up tournaments and then joins them with as many as 9 alaises at one time!  Playing all the games!  I have complained to chess.com and gotten the alaises accounts closed but he sets up new ones and starts new tournaments.  In this case, I do understand the complaint.

Now that's something else completely. Is there no rule to the effect that you will be banned permanently if caught using more than one account?

Multiple accounts are forbidden...but difficult if not impossible to police. It's very easy to set up a chess.com account. All you need is an e-mail address and an IP that hasn't been blocked. Most everybody knows how easy it is to get both - maybe 5 minutes, tops.

There have been cases where people with two or more accounts will sign in with both accounts and play a large number of games with each other using the fake accounts just to jack up their rating. This would get rather tedious after a while because the more active you are with the glicko rating system, the slower your rating will fluctuate.

But then in the past chess.com members have figured out how to do this with software so once they start the process it can run unattended all night and in the morning the profile they've given favor to is an instant master.

Yes! And since we all know, everyone cares about your rating!

Oh wait, no one cares about it but you. And...you will be aware that you have cheated to get it. Argh! Foiled again!

Patronising, unfriendly, unhelpful, inhospitable and insulting - those of you (like the self-styled IMDeviate) who troll posts from newbies to punish them for the presumption that they could hope for a simple answer to a straightforward question, shame on you.  That you came from a country that invented obscene wealth amongst widespread poverty, perhaps I shouldn't be surprised.  Enjoy your tea.

fissionfowl

You've had a straightforward answer but just aren't listening.

In before the Trysts.

Holiday season guys.  Can we all peace out?  Call a truce, just as the two battling sides did this time of year in 1914 (in keeping with the history lesson)?

fissionfowl

Humbug.

Timbles, if you have enough games going, then you really wont care at all how long someone takes to make a move, you will always have a full docket. I just do them as they come up.

And just wait until some opponents go on vacation! I have games I havent looked at in weeks, I will have to replay over from the start to remember what in the world I was thinking, and how did I get in such an awful mess. It has been so long on some of them that my chosen opening has gone out of style and been refuted.

Hee hee.  Thanks, InvisibleDuck, not just for giving some sound advice but even more for doing it amiably.  I was beginning to really miss that.

Have a happy holidays!

We are all here to have fun.

Happy holidays to you too!

Yes, this being pleasant to each other must be really burning your craw, IMDeviate! Sorry about that.  However nasty you get, you can't stop people's natural urge to be reasonable with one another.  Still, I'm sure you'll keep trying.

ow so maybe a lil over the top and insulting. the sentiments behind it are honest tho.  there is a simple solution to everyones problems. use the tools provided to be more selecive with games you decide to play. the problem is with everyone and noone.

also @TIM look in the mirror and quit hating. if you feel insulted by comments that are not directly @ than maybe you should use logical arguments to refute the comments in question.

Amaricans!  i hate to be the one who points this out but our country is bossy, selfish, self serving and greedy. we do not help those who need it in the best way and the US government has its heaps of black marks. i humbly as ourselfs to ask ourselfs what we would have thought if we where "France" in WWII. ya we kicked ass but we also didnt fight while other countrys had to fight alone. imagin if Pearl harbor was never attacked. our selfish citizents wouldnt have wanted to send their sons off to die until we where attacked. we might have been the last to fall but we would still have fallen. we dont know what it is like to fight an enemy we can see on our own back yeard. War is bloody scary and far from the glory those who have never been think it is.

oh and i think ithis is silly.  you want to play faster than play more games. then you will always have moves. if no one is moving than play a "quick" hour long match on the chess now tab. King's have waited a year for the reply move.

Well, so in WWII we took flak for not fighting while others fought.

Now we are taking flak for fighting while others are not.

Basically, the US is always wrong and everyone else is always right.

And what's your problem (Spongebob) with writing in sentences that are comprehensible?

Take it easy on the Irish, please.  You saw the Braveheart movie?

We're just geeks playing chess on this site.  It' s not "Call of Duty" WW3.
