That had to be done by an automated bot.....for the percieved spamming. Give it 24 hrs.
my friend who joined today got banned unfairly

so you're saying my friend should be able to get back in in a day?

My friend in my school, founder of Comedy Central Chatting Service, has joined chess.com just today. He told me after school that he has, and I became friends with him online. He said that he was indefinately banned for spam. He was just trying to update my description for my chess account, but it wouldn't let him save it. So, to try to solve that, he did this about 3 times, but then he got banned afterwards. It doesn't say he is banned, but he can no longer get into chess.com
This is in my opinion, very unfair. First day, you get banned. I would like to see chess.com trolls that do legitamitely everything to violate chess.com policies to get banned on the first day, but they don't, and some might still be roaming around. My friend was just trying to update a stinkin' description to get banned. His username is @Alvesteffer19.
It doesn't say he is banned, but he cannot get into chess.com anymore.
Your friend isn't banned, just temporarily muted.

then how come he can't even get on

Upgrade to a permanent muting.
why would you want my friend to be muted when he did nothing bad

Being a mod is largely about making sketchy judgment calls. Some of them are obvious, and some of them aren't. And there's a lot of those judgment calls every day.

Maybe the spambot locks the account to prevent subsequent attempts at spam.
If something's not successful the second time, you're generally asking for trouble by continuing to try and do it - that's the sort of behaviour common to spammers and why the spambot reacts teh way that it does. If he just contacts Chess.com Support at the aforementioned email and explains things to them, they'll unlock his account and hopefulyl he'll be the wiser for it.
