Actually, I'm not a big fan of signatures because they make it difficult to read threads. I prefer the clean, easy-to-read format of these forums.
We should be able to have a signature on our forum posts

well Erik could limit sigs to two lines perhaps with no images or bright colors.
there could also be an option to turn off signatures. most forums have that option, AFAIK. that would solve your prroblem.

I think post writer has created a monster.
I agree with easyb -- sig's would "cloud" the forums. I mean just look at how erik has taken over this page already! Seems like a waste of space to me, could decrease loading times for some people.

Like I said to b, we could have an option not to show/load them. It could even be the default option.

could cause problems on a family friendly site like this 
I'm on the fence on this. In some forums, people with crazy good internet speeds put ginormous sigs with picture monstrosities, or GIF avatars, that all take up enormous bandwidth, so page loading takes longer than a good game.
On the other hand, sigs allow people to express themselves, or show off what they are currently into. But I am a baby to this site, and should shut up and color.
I like our forums without signatures.

The post already displays your photo/image, your login-name, your national flag, your location (though this can contain pretty much anything), how long you've been a member and the number of member points you've collected, the time of posting and the post number. The post itself can employ a variety of fonts, colours, sizes, effects, plus images, diagrams, video, …
More wouldn't necessarily be better (except in the case of motorbikes, obviously).

doesn't the post already have your avatar and name? what more do you want?
Just saying, "I would like this feature" without explaining why you think it is a good thing will not get you far. I have seen signatures used as a mean of personalizing one's image. Well, as other mentioned, you have the avatar picture for that, and if that is not enough, you have your own page to customize to your will.
PS: How more hard to read could the comments section on the daily puzzle be ? With random signatures on all the First! posts... I personally wish we could vote comments up and down (moderation-like), at least the good ones would show up at the top...
This would be a great feature as I'm sure many will agree.
