You should have the same colour in the game following an aborted game

If a game is aborted by the opponent losing connection or deciding they didn’t want to play, you should get the same colour next game if possible.

I was going to play white, it was aborted, got black. A bit disappointed and maybe affecting my game. Lost. Lost rematch as white. New game. Black again. Lost. Lost rematch. New game. Lost game and rematch. Then got my fourth new opponent in a row after I was supposed to play white. Given black again. I aborted the game.

Remember back in school when they tried to explain random chance and probabilitty?

Remember how they showed you that a coin has a 50/50 chance of landing on either side but doesn't actually land heads, tails, heads, tails, etc.? Why is that?

There may be times when you get a streak of white or black but in the long run, it balances whites and blacks pretty well.

You have played 10,722 bullet games.

You have played 5,386 bullet games as white.

You have played 5, 336 games as black.

Yes of course, I understand that full well, and I’m not suggesting for a moment that there’s an imbalance. The point of my post, which I hope is clear, is that it might be a good idea for the game following an aborted game (if aborted by the opposition) to have the same colour you were going to play in that game. A lot of people have a preference. If you were going to play your less preferred colour, you were prepared for that anyway, but if you were going to play the preferred colour, it’s a tiny bit of a let down and a distraction.

Yes, minor stuff, but it would be a nice little improvement to the app/site. If it can be done, is it such a bad idea? Your games would still be 50-50 between black and white, but if you were going to play white, and someone decides they don’t feel like it or whatever, you still get to play white.

It would also prevent any domino effect, when the person cancelled on decides they’ll cancel.

The system looks at which player is more due black and that player gets it, regardless of previous game outcomes, with the exception of explicit rematches. Games that don't make it to the archive don't get added to your color balance, so the system would have to track an additional piece of information as well.

My guess is something like that wouldn't be implemented. The more checks a match has to pass the longer it can potentially take longer to pair.
