Frustrating Game

I'm pretty new to Chess (playing for a couple of months) and just had a very frustrating game. I could use some help on how to avoid the position I found myself in or at least how to put together a respectable attack. For what it's worth, my opponent is about 100pts higher than me.

I recently purchased a book on openings (won't study it in too much depth until I get better) and also a general book on chess (read most of it already).

 I appreciate all constructive criticism!

Thanks in advance

17...Bh5?? was a blunder. 17...Bxf3 I would like, but even retreating is a viable option. ...Be6 is very good as well, because that white bishop is menacing in its current square. After that your game just went downhill - saving that bishop would have brought more likely success.

8. ... e5. I don't like this move because it blocks the diagonal of your g7 bishop and gives up the ability to defend d5 with a pawn.

 17. ... Bh5 loses a bishop.

25. ... Bf6. I think it would be better to play 25. ... f5. You can open the f-file and bring your other rook into play. You are down material, but if all of your pieces are directly attacking the king and not all your opponent's are defending, you can still win or draw.

Another option is to play 25. ... g5 intending to play g4 next.

How about 29. ... h5. White will probably give up a pawn instead of the bishop by 30. f4 Qxf4 but this helps you get at the king, which will be necessary to save defeat.

33. ... Bh4 threatens Rxh5. 34. Bg4 Qg3+ 35. Kf1 h5. Does it win the bishop?

Thank you for the feedback. I looks as if I very much misplayed my bishop this game.

17...Bh5 - I had a feeling this was a blunder. I was torn between the move I made and taking the knight. I never considered exchanging for the white bishop. I will have nightmares because of that bishop.

25. ... Bf6 - f5 instead. I will keep this in mind in the future.

29. ... h5 - I have no idea why I missed that.

I think having all those pawns locked messed me up a little.

White's move at 9.g3 weakens his position. Bg4 pins his knight so that he cannot repel the bishop without losing tempo. If he doesn't see that he is forced to Bc6 then you Nd4 gaining at least the knight at f3. If he does take the Bc6 then pxc6 effectively negating the knight at c3 preparing for the bloodbath that blacks pawn to d4 and then d5 depending on whether white backs up the pawn at e4.

Black has a winning game after 11. Nd5?  I believe the strong move for black at this point is 11....Nd5  after 12. ed5 Ne7!  threathening to win a pawn on d5.  Now if white defends the pawn by either 13. c4 or Bc4 Black plays   13.....e4! and wins a  piece and  the game!

i think you didn't pay enough attention to the opponent's plans. all that bishop maneuvering should have warned you something was up.
