My best tactic so far....

I'm still a beginner, and I should note that I ultimately flagged this game, so whatever, but this is probably the best tactic I've played so far.

Black to move. Guess the sequence.

I should also note, as I analyzed this game, that this sequence works against another non-expert player. The computer doesn't fall for the bait.

Rxn, bxr and now instead of grabbing the bishop you forked the king and queen!  Nice spot.

Most people over 1500 would probably see this relatively quickly, but definitely impressive for a beginner.  I have to admit I got distracted and it took me a moment.

White is toast even if he doesn't play bxn, so I think this tactic works against everyone.  Its a free piece, and white is in further troubles I think.

I captured with Qxn (probably Rxn is better, but it also seems less tempting for b to take back). But after the fork, I also get the b with the R after Kc3. Went from -1 in material to +6.

The computer (and probably good players) take c6 with the pawn rather than taking the bait.

Feels good doesn't it, when you start seeing those tactics happy.png

I can totally relate.

The problem is after ...Qxe2 he has to not only fail to find, dxc6, but he also has to fail to find Kd1 after ‘falling for it’ - after which Black’s advantage is quite small if you consider the ratings of the players.

...Rxe2 on the other hand, wins instantly, as observed above.

Credit is due for seeing the theme though, even if the execution of it wasn’t the most accurate.

True enough. You are correct that I hadn't seen that counter move.

Side note--this is my first forum post, and I am having fun in this conversation and am thankful that you guys are not hitting me over the head with my mistakes.

Ofcourse not. Why would we. Anyone who would do that is a total *ss. I totally remember the feeling when i started seeing tactics such as this one. I felt ecstatic! So i understand you wanted to share it. Before you know it you'll be playing a game exactly like Morphy did. Happened to me. And trust me, you'll be wanting to share that even more wink.png

Keep it up thumbup.png
