Players who don't accept a rematch, or - my game against Carlsen

But I will get my rematch. I can feel it!!

So this is how it went:

MSC157

Awesome game, absolutely loved d4, glorious! Search for the positive!

gk59

The game is over, of course. I keep playing more for the sake of the other participants. Later, after my resignation, I switch on the "chess.com TV" and find out that carlsen still has his original 25 minutes against EVERYBODY!

That's... just... speechless.

I'm so jealous that you got the chance to play Magnus! Hehe. So I guess he was able to retain an average of one second per move given all the games he was playing!

I think though even with your blockade, two pawns is two pawns. Maybe he can't exchange everything off right now, but eventually your attack will probably reach its limit, and I don't think it'll be able to win you back two full pawns for nothing. White's position is very solid and he can figure out how to regroup his pieces very steadily. But it is certainly quite impressive that you are giving Magnus any technical task at all, so serious props for the whole ...d4 blockade idea.

<MSC157> exactly :-) look for dynamic factors in an otherwise depressing position... :-) and don't be afraid of the world champion! Create the conditions to at least be able to PLAY.

<NotAllowedTo> right :-) Positional prophylaxis, or asphyxiation :-) to choose another nice-sounding long word with s, ph, x and y all at the same word - really a sphynx of a word.

Of course, carlsen can only do that because I allow him to :-) this game is a great learning experience - what can be better than such a private lesson from the world champion!

<gk59> thanks :-) that's what the guys at the Cafe Pantin thought too when we discussed the game a bit earlier :-) turns out that they were watching it live!

<Shell_knight> absolutely!

<Elubas> seeing that the increment was 25 seconds per move, I'd say that he could even allow himself a couple of seconds per move, and still get to keep a bit extra...

It was probably clever on his part to insist on having a 25 seconds increment, his strategy being all along "to live off the interest and not to touch the principal" - financial wisdom transferred over to the chess board, as only a mighty champion can do.

Anand was impressed by his speed of play and thinking. Need I say anything more?

Yes - you should have heard the tempo in which I took the Allegro Con Brio of the Pathetique this afternoon. It will probably go to YouTube in a couple of weeks, give or take...

BlackAkres78

Good work. Having this opportunity was well worth being a part of the master Carlsen's precision play. I am sure you will learn more by having just played this game.

Elubas

Living off interest... maybe I'll try that :p

solskytz

<Elubas> need to make the principal first... ;-)

<BlackAkres> This is absolutely seconded!

I now remember that I played 27...Rb7 as he threatened 28. Qc7+...

But ...h5 was playable on move 28 and would stay "alive as a vegetable" for a bit longer.

kleelof

Hey. You did a pretty good job in that game.

I really like the details of your comments.

solskytz

<Kleelof> I'm glad you do!

Make sure to check out my other threads as well - I annotate a lot of games, generally with pretty much the same writing style...

Chicken_Monster

Great job hanging in there for almost 30 moves. You will be saving that game for the rest of your life.

Anyone know where we can find the other games (annotated if possible)? I heard one person from this site actually beat Carlsen.

<Chicken_Monster>

(re: "you will be saving that game for the rest of your life")

I will? :-)

Somehow I hope that my next game against him will be even more memorable :-)

YEah, it was the guy in this thread:

Geez, and Magnus faced respectable opposition too -- masters and international masters. And he still used none of his time? Wow!

That CP6 guy seemed to do really well though lol, right to the end. I'm surprised he resigned so early. I guess he would know if there was a draw or not, but it's always annoying to worry about a knight sacrificing itself for the last pawn.

Anand can teach Carlsen a lesson or two.

How to make Gobhi Aloo?Laughing

<Elubas> his resignation baffled me as well - but don't forget that he'd studied the position deeper than we did - and was probably very short on time as well, and under pressure for so long. Geez!! He's 14 for Chrissakes!!!!

He said that he thought and thought didn't find a way to sac the N for the P. I know I would think a bit longer... :-)

Chicken_Monster

Thanks for the links.

Anand is a great player. We all know that.Carlsen seems to be a cut above everyone, though...at least every active player today.

Regarding the rematch...don't hold your breath but I hope you get it and make it to 40 moves next time! I think I would make it to move 12.
