This is a game I played at a tourdament. The time control is 40/90 then G/60.

Any feed back?

ok, my problem #1 with this game... The exchange french.  Seriously, if black is going out of his way to make his light squared bishop worth less than your e4 pawn, why would you purposely free his bishop up and give away your space advantage in the center?

#2: 7.h3 is kind of a waste of a move.  You can play Bd3 and if Bg4 then Qe2+ followed by castling queenside.  if Qe7 then Qxe7 Bxe7 and Ne5 followed by castling kingside.

9. Ne2- I like this move because you recognized that the knight is serving no purpose on c3.  I thought back when you played Nc3 that the knight was better placed on d2 to begin with

#3: 13.Rac1.  Why was this preparation move necessary?  you can immediately play c4, followed by Nc3.

you recognized your blunder so I won't talk about that as much.

I completely agree with birdboy about the exchange french... really seems to solve Black's problems.

It felt like you were playing passively, or at least sort of lackadaisacally -- without any real urgency to your moves or a strong plan.  After 9.Ne2 that N seemed purposeless.

His 10...Ba6 was quite nice. Trading his poor bishop for your good one. That was an exchange you wanted to avoid but it needed to be on your radar.

18.Qd2?!  18.Qf5 seems like it gives you a chance at creating some counter play with threats against the b pawn and also some pressure on the kingside.

Finally... I think you resigned prematurely. Qxe8 Rxe8 Rxe8+ Nf8 a3 and yeah  you're down materially but it's a complicated position and you've got some practical chances for swindling your way back into the game.

Actually, if 24 a3 cb looks scary...but after 24 Rxc3 Bxc3 25 Be7 it's not entirely clear yet.

Ah crap! yeah a3 is losing, and darn it I had that idea (Be7) and I spent some minutes trying to find a way to play it _and_ keep my two rooks. Sadly, my mind completely refused to consider sacking the exchange when already down a piece.

10. O-O seemed like a better move. You had more pieces on the Kingside anyway, so if you had put your d2-Knight on f4 or g3 you could have fought for some counterplay with an attack, especially since you were ahead in development. The trade of the light-squared Bishop would only activate your Queen, and your Rooks could then fight for control of the e-file.
