My annotations are in the game.  Thanks for your time in going over this.

The reason you got a gain in rating at the end of the game is because you drew with someone better than you. This would have happened regardless of who offered the draw.

Hey good eye on not taking that rook the first time.  I bet you really had to look for that lol.

The poisoned pawn is really one that results in the loss of your queen, which in this case wasn't possible.  *I* think you should have exhanged queens, myself.  When ahead in material, simply trading down benefits you.

Also, Bc4 was kind of odd development if you ask me, because it aimed at the e pawn which was WELL protected. Maybe better would have been to e2, so it could have access to the f3 square?  Heck, just an idea. But with that open g file, it woulda been nice to have something covering the g2 square :).

I also think that the rook move to c8 was a good one by black.  If something happened where he could take the f pawn with check and the bishop on c4 was undefended, he'd get his pawn back and then some. Open or semi-open (as in this case) files = rooks.

Nice game, overall I think it was well played by white.  :)

Good game. His rating was 200+ of yours. So if you drew, you would get points because of the great rating gap.He obviously lost lots of points. But congrats. You played well to secure the draw. It's more like a win for you.lol. Good post!Cool

I see what you mean regarding the bishop development.  In my games, i usually try to get my bishop to c4, not so much to aim at the pawn, but to lock down the diagonal.  Still, things do change with the bishop arriving on f3 at some point.

I think we should at least work out what would have happened after 15.Kxg2.

15.Kxg2 Qg6+ 16.Kh1 Bxe4+ 17.f3 Bxd3 18.Nxc7+ Kd8 and now we are here:

Now what? Rxd3 is one way, Nxe6+ fxe6 is another, Bxc5 Bxf1 Bxe7+ Kxc7 Rxf1 is another.

I need to get back to work...

It sounds like most of you seem to think white has good compensation for the queen, which i wondered about in hindsight.  Looking over my OP, i realized that i was pretty vague saying "thoughts on this draw."  I really should have asked if white could have found away out of the draw early on, but you've all answered that question.  Thanks again.

From here, it looks like white isn't doing bad, although i'm not sure what the best move forward is, but i think Black can't get anything going without getting his queen safe, and that cold become a little tedious as white is attacking the queen in a few places.  Maybe i should have just played on, although, i would have missed f3
