Walking With Ghosts: Capablanca vs Marshall - ghostface killer

When one studies chess, one goes through hundreds and hundreds of games, and, try though you might, you can't keep them all straight - inevitably, they bleed together and many of them simply disappear. This one, however, was really remarkable for me - because it is presented in books as a 'masterpiece of defense', and, when I went through it, I realized unequivocally that I would have gotten KILLED in white's position while Capablanca spun straw into gold.

The variations I present are purposefully NOT from an engine perspective or a 'best moves' perspective - I'm presenting my own moves, my own ideas, and my own failures because - for me - it was the struggle of making bad moves that made Capablanca's seem so brilliant by contrast

One of Capablanca greatest game, very few players would of dare to accept such gambit at that time but felt he was being challence and accepted it and won brilliantly.

Huey - you're actually right! I shouldn't have dismissed my own idea so quickly because taking the knight actually seems to resolve black's attack and create the kind of equalish ending that white wants to play. Maybe Alison *can* play chess!
