What do you mean?
I am a member of talkchess( chess engine programmers community) and fishcooking (stockfish programmming) for 6 years now.
Of course there are always someone who knows better than another but I am confident that I have descent understanding of those stuff.

Its about the proper tool for the job. Had you used a tactical engine I would have given you half credit at least!

Of course, you can! But before using an engine, no body knows there is a forced checkmate within a few moves,
There are stockfish mate finder, Houdini tacticals. Correspondence Stockfish, etc,
They perform better in specific situations only, and generally perform worse than the standard engines.
This is a follow up #post 7, to compare performance of Stockfish 11 dev version vs Stockfish 10.
But brain and engine a two different things
Yes, but apparently not regarding this aspect.
Both use procedures that may lead to the situation that the first mate discovered is not the quickest. Which is no surprise at all, because it actually is harder to spot the quickest mate (compared to the task of discovering any mate).
Good advice though. I do need to pay more attention to my opponents defense. I’ve found one of my biggest flaws is to not give myself time to properly “see” the board when I think I’ve spotted a winning strategy. I have a tendency to execute without properly evaluating how my opponent may best respond.
