Why is this checkmate?

     Can someone explain why this is checkmate? The piece that defends Queen on g7 is pinned by my rook on f8. Shouldn't the Kxg7 be a viable move?

Pinned means that the piece that is pinned can't move, but it can still control squares. So it is still defending the queen.

Kxg7 is impossible because white would capture your king before you can capture theirs
