Thought I'd post this game to show how I had a good game going, but blew it.

17...e6 - he was trying to cut off communications between Queen and bishop, so he can take the bishop down.

Third time lucky posting...I'm gonna post the PGN for my thoughts from move 21, and then edit the post to include the game.

1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Qxd5 3.Nc3 Qe5+ 4.Be2 Nf6 5.d4 { I was debating on whether to play Nf3, but went for this instead. } 5...Qf5 6.Nf3 { Now I brought the Knight out, developing my pieces. } 6...Qg4 { Felt pretty good, that he was running his Queen around & not developing his pieces. } 7.O-O { Castled, protecting my unguarded g-pawn. } 7...c6 { Didn't understand this move. I didn't see any threats coming from this. } 8.Ne5 { Moved my Knight because it again attacks his queen and felt I was getting a nice center hold. } 8...Qh4 { Didn't think he could be really trying for an attack on the h-pawn. My Queen, Bishop, & Knight were guarding g4 preventing the black knight at f3 from coming down there. } 9.Be3 { Developing more of my pieces, also supporting the pawn at d4 in case i wanted to move my Queen at some point. } 9...Ne4 10.Nxe4 Qxe4 11.Bd3 { Again chasing his Queen around, while his pieces are still not developed. Felt real good at this point. } 11...Qd5 12.c4 { Maybe I should have played Bc4 instead, but I wanted to open files so my Queen could get out. And still chasing his Queen. } 12...Qd6 13.Qb3 { At this point I had the idea of my Queen & Knight somehow attacking g7, and also a little eye on the b7 pawn. } 13...f6 { With this move i could have retreated to f3, but instead I played... } 14.c5 { Still attacking the Queen. } 14...Qe6 15.Bc4 { I don't think i ever remember a game of mine where I had so many pieces in play & my opponent had none except his Queen. } 15...Qf5 16.Bf7+ { I thought I had a real powerful attack going now } 16...Kd8 17.Nf3 { Getting my Knight out of danger, my Bishop in no trouble there. Was I getting over confident here? } 17...e6 { Had me a little worried with this move. } 18.Rad1 { I felt at some point this file would open up putting more pressure on the black King. } 18...Be7 { Ok, I could see him possibly moving his Rook over to get my Bishop } 19.Nh4 { Chasing his Queen away, so I could get my Bishop out. } 19...Qe4 { And here's where I made my first mistake. } 20.f3 Qxh4 { BOOM! OK, still not bad. My pieces were all developed, in play, and all of his were still on the back row. } 21.d5 cxd5 { I don't know why I thought he would take with the c-pawn instead of the e-pawn } ( 21...exd5 22.Rxd5+! { I know this may be far-fetched, but I'm an attacking player, and this is the first move I had on my mind. } 22...cxd5 23.Qxd5+ { Black can now opt to move his king, or build a nice defensive formation, taking care of the light square bishop when the time is right. } 23...Bd7 ( 23...Kc7?! { At this point, as Black, I'd build a fortress with knight and bishop, in my opinion. But this seems like a natural move. } 24.g3! { Threatening Bf4# if Black moves her queen without protecting the f4 square } 24...Qxh2+ { This indirectly protects the f4 square, as it gives Black the initiative and gets the queen out of the way. } ( 24...Qg5 25.Bxg5 { Black lost a Queen. } ( 25.f4?? ) 25...fxg5 ) 25.Kxh2 g5 26.f4 h6 { The danger has passed. Black can not take the f-pawn due to the threat of Bf4#; White can not take the g-pawn because it can be replaced with the h- and f- pawns. Material is even, except for White's queen for Black's rook  + knight. } ) 24.Rd1 { Always keep a backrank rook as a rearguard. It's part of the point of castling (in my opinion, at least). Move only when necessary. Notice how more pressure can be added onto the black bishop, and the queen unable to do anything about it...except (and good luck seeing it) } 24...Qa4 25.b3 Qb5 26.a4 Qc6 { And black is fine. } ) 22.c6 { Now it was falling all apart. } ( 22.Rxd5+ exd5 { Transposes into the previous alternative line } ) 22...Nxc6 { Woops, I deleted everything after 22.Nxc6. }

Talking of throwing a game away, check out Ibx vs Patzer (http://www.365chess.com/view_game.php?g=811113).  Black could have checkmated on move 2 (!), but the game instead went to a draw.

 I wonder what their ratings were.
