2024 FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships: Official Discussion Thread

For the first time, the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships are taking place in the United States. The premier speed chess tournaments will be held on Wall Street in New York City with a brand new format including a knockout in the Blitz.

Between Christmas and New Year's, December 26-31, the world's best chess players, including world number-one GM Magnus Carlsen, descend on the Big Apple for their share of the nearly $1.5 million prize fund and FIDE's most prestigious titles for speed chess.

Rapid kicks off the event starting December 26, 2:00 p.m. ET / 20:00 CET / 12:30 a.m. IST (next day). If you'll be in New York this holiday season, you can purchase your tickets here.

There are so many different coverages. Pretty sad that there usually isn't a single one covering the women's event.

By Fide Rapid ratings, the seedings here are 1 Carlsen 2838, 2 Caruana 2766, 3 MVL 2763, 4 Wei Yi 2760, 5 Nepo 2758, 6 Aronian 2757, 7 Firouzja 2756, 8 Nakamura 2755, 9-10 Abdusattorov and Duda 2740, 11 So 2749, 12 Xiong 2714, Mamedyarov 2711 of players rated 2700+.

At 11th is So at 2739 actually.
