45 minute match wasted because of misclick. why is there no take back?

i'll code it for you for free. so what's the excuse for it not existing?

Try to come up with a reason yourself, it won’t be difficult.

Also you can play with confirm move on
tolgka

the reason i can come up with is that they made the conscious decision that a player's time doesn't matter. it happens rarely enough that they can just ignore the fact that it's a good feature to have. that's the reason i can come up with. was it supposed to be a good reason or...?

In real chess, we play "touch move." If you touch a piece, you have to move it. There is no "take back." If you are advocating that people should be able to take back their blunders, I don't think any decent chess player would agree with you.

Fetoxo
Turn on confirm each move in the settings.

exactly when am i "touching" the piece while playing chess online? i'm not talking about blunders where you realise you played a bad move. i'm talking about the equivalent of knocking a piece over. are you not gonna have to put it back? how pedantic are we gonna be about a game we play in our free time that you want to... what, keep the piece knocked over? or "you knocked it over, it's out of the game". i'm struggling to understand this point of view.

and i'm also not asking the other player to be forced to accept my take back. but why is there not even the option to ask the other player if he agrees to the take back?

ok, am i actually blind? i've been looking for 5-10m now and i swear there's no option. am i not looking in the right place? settings > live chess?

I once played a guy who set the game to allow takebacks. It lasted forever. I beat him about 5 times before the site mercifully canned him for his other offenses.

why does everyone get the impression that i think take backs are a vital part of the game and advocating for infinite take backs, no questions asked, as many times as you want? what you're saying is reasonable. it's obviously not something that's part of normal play. but it's trivial to just allow, i don't know, 3 take backs per day. or 1, or even less. and even then, what i'm thinking is that the other player gets a popup asking if he wants to allow it. is the playerbase really gonna go and abuse that? does that really ruin the game?

Che_ssdave

I don't think it would make sense to allow take backs other than against friends. But what do I know🤷?

LordHunkyhair3

Just use the confirm move setting. Problem solved

is that a mobile only thing? 'cause i've been googling and that's the feeling i get. and so here's another great idea: how about they add that feature to the web app too? i know, i know. it ruins the spirit of the game. unfair advantage. or whatever other reasons. it's just an idea.

BlueHen86

There should not be takebacks. It's up to the player to avoid a misclick.

LordHunkyhair3

Lemme check

LordHunkyhair3

Hmmm. I believe you're correct. I couldn't find a setting in the web version for confirming moves

why? because it's fair? wouldn't it be fairer to account for human error?

Why do you think human error should be accounted for?
