Well, I can send abusive messages too. Don't complain then if you think it's too much.

As I say, don't disable the chat! You will need it to make a useless attempt at offending me after you lose!

Abusive messages are a part of the fun of online chess.  You tell your lucky opponent that they are lucky that they won, and that they can't really play chess.  And they tell you about how if it was in person, you'd be on the floor crying, and then you tell them that you've been in a ton of street fights and never even lost one.  Then they tell you, 'your mom lost one,' then you tell them, 'your mom won me as a prize, and i traded her in for the job scooping up road apples at the end of the parade.'

Then, when things get really heated, one or the other (usually the other guy since he's a wimp) says f*** off, and blocks you.  You can close out the game chat knowing that you outwitted your opponent on the chess board, and in the game chat.  Life is good.

Then, later on that night, while lying in bed, you recall what he said about you being on the floor crying, and think, "oh man!  I should have said, ' nah brah, you'd be crying cuz i'd KO yo ass, brah.'"

Then you realize all of a sudden... YOU ARE THE MAN.... BRAH.

For a girl that is not a very good advice, I think. I have the impression that girls (women), are more vulnerable to verbal abuse.Undecided But: Men fight with their fists; women with deadly words.

Thinking of the person you're playing as an "opponent" that must not only be defeated but humiliated as well is a sad way to look at the game. I much prefer Bronsteins philosophy... you play a "partner" not an opponent. Together you create the game. Perhaps this attitude is attractive to me because until recently I only played friends over the board. It was a social interaction. Have a few beers(or back in the day a little greenery) and enjoy a friendly game of chess(or euchre). Of course online we play strangers for the most part, but why all the animosity and gamesmanship? It's not like we're playing for money....

I can truthfully say that while I enjoy winning, and hope to prevail in each game I play, I hold no hard feelings toward the people I play here. If I lose, then I take knowledge from that game and hopefully become a better player. If I happen to win then I appreciate the effort of those I play and wish them the best in the future.

Life is too damned short to fight and bicker over such silliness. Peace....

recovik

maybe because you play with programs
