En passant was introduced when they decided to let pawns move two squares on their opening move and avoiding being captured by a fifth rank pawn because people were moving their pawns to the center; it just made it faster.
Ban the en passant rule in Blitz?
Heck while you are at it how about making the pawns promote into checker kings that can jump over pieces to move and take them, and how about being able to castle with your knight if it hasn't moved and etc., Maybe it would be good to get rid of that pesky repeated position rule so that only the fastest person can win a blitz game that gets to that point. Why should you have to move out of check. Maybe their should be no checkmate but the winner is the one with the last piece standing. Instead of letting pawns move 1 or 2 moves on their first move, lets simplify the game and speed it up at the same time and have pawns move three spaces on their first move. Actually in blitz, the pawns move just too slowly, maybe get rid of them all together and get rid of those complicated pawn endgames. With fewer pieces on the board maybe we could go to a 7x7 square board and speed the game up even more. To speed it up even more we could have clocks that beep and go over to the other persons clock -- if you haven't moved and hit your clock by then you forfeit that turn
"En passant" is French for "in passing" in English. Does everybody who plays chess in every language use the French words or what?
Do the Chinese use French, How about the Swedes and Soviets? Does any one know?know ? Of course now I know that the International wanmokewan use the French, but how about all of you out there who claim a unique language and country?

Well English is my primary language and I've never heard an English speaker call the move in passing.

Changing how any piece moves or captures in blitz is a terrible idea. Other than the difference in time control, speed games should be played by the same rules as standard games. The en passant capture is second nature only for robotic cyborgs? I learned how to capture en passant when I learned how to play chess. I never studied it. I didn't have to slavishly repeat it until it became second nature. I simply learned how the capture is made and under what circumstances it is allowed. I always see the opportunity when it's presented no matter the time control. It's not rocket science.

No.
DrJon wins the Silent Cal brevity award. As the story goes, a woman told Calvin Coolidge at a dinner that she had made a bet that she could get more than two words out of him. He replied, "You lose."

Soviet Union broke up 26 years ago. Happy new year. Fake news is a real harm to your brain...
The en passant rule was introduced to discourage overly defensive play and therefore quicken up the game.
However with the advent of rapid ‘Blitz’ chess formats etc. it can be argued the rule is no longer relevant for these quicker format.
Now the robotic cyborgs out there (those who slavishly repeat the en passant move until it’s second nature) may cry foul here, whereas those with a more natural disposition for the game may favour abolition.
