cheater_1 vs. chess.com

Lattitude,

I've largely stayed out of this discussion, but now I have a question for you. Weather you are or aren't also Cheater_1 is, IMO, a very intriguing idea, though ultimately moot, because none of us (outside of possibly Erik) could actually prove it, though, you do have strangely similar posting styles. My question to you is in regards to your posts regarding, in your words, the "INTELIGENTZIA"  (which is spelled intelligentsia, btw).

The idea behind an intelligentsia is a group of people who believe that they are so much smarter than everyone else that they cannot be associated with people who are less intelligent than them. Where is the evidence of such behavior here? The only evidence I see is someone pointed out that you probably meant to use the word AURA instead of AURORA. This wasn't meant as a slight against you, the two words have COMPLETELY different meanings so the post was a bit confusing and needed to be clarified. Also, while it is technically correct to use "egoist" the way you did, I have never in my life actually heard someone use it like that. In fact, I even had to look it up in order to find out that it WAS correct. Typically, the word "egoist" is only used in philisophical discussions and books to refer to a philisophical idea, NOT someone who has "excessive concern for oneself"*, which is, what I believe you meant to say. So again, it's not elitist to be confused by the use of that term in that way.

No one here is saying they are smarter than anyone. And I don't see where anyone is trying to disassociate with anyone else because of a typo.

I've been reflecting on the notion that Latitude is one of cheater_1's alt accounts... and it makes a startling amount of sense to me, extrapolating what I can about his psychology.

I think it's a very intriguing notion - to create a "villain" account and also a "hero" one. Note the clue in the similarity of the profile pictures... both masked men. One claims to be willing to kill his grandmother with a two-by-four, the other seems to be unwaveringly obsessed with justice and morality.

I think that is one of the first clues. The polarities of the two accounts are interestingly extreme. I reflected that the user of these accounts, for the most part in the past, would've been veeery careful to not out himself, nor did he have any reason to. I think in the excitement surrounding this match, he was pushed to use the other character. The use of language is very similar, as is the mild deviation of red letters instead of capital ones.

Think about it: would a guy like cheater_1 try to "good-cop" "bad-cop" us? Of course he would. He'd like to sow as much dissention as possible. Notice how the tactics are changing... cheater_1 is acting almost amicable, he's pleased to have this opportunity, etc, whereas Latitude is taking the burden of trying to point out the "hypocrisy" and "immorality" of the chess.com members involved.

I think it was the line "Erik will recant!" that really solidified it in my mind.

We could discuss the mask similarities like we could discuss why most vehicles have 4 wheels.

And about the different psychologies and multi patterns and “polarities” of the chess.com profiles what can I say? You got me there. It is a very interesting point worthy of further explorations.

But I would have to revise my Psychoanalysis and Neurosis by Jung and that’s really asking too much today.

Ok! Lets keep this farce alive: I’m Cheater_1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

… and I live in Erik’s basement.

Parole parole parole for all of you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HweU-Nc__HE

PS) Yeah Hesse is cool. I enjoy it a lot. Glad we coincide on that.

PEACE

HELP!

Im sorry Lattitude, was that an answer to my question? Excuse my ignorance, but I'm not multi-lingual. I only speak English. I have no idea what that video is about, nor how it fits into the discussion. Perhaps you could translate for me? Or at least explain what it has to do with the lack of evidence for your intelligentsia argument?

First I was part of the intelli-whatever and now I have a Sherlock Holmes complex.  Anyway, Latitude, this has become pretty boring now.  Get that fan fixed yet?   Oh, that's right, we're supposed to pretend you are NOT cheater_1.  Since you don't find me as funny as the others (I don't find myself nearly as funny as them either) I will leave you alone and return to what I came here for, which is not posting stupid comments in forums.

erik
people - cheater has no other accounts on this site. lattitude is not cheater. etc. the end.

It’s just a famous Italian song. “Parole parole” Words, Words.Yes, most of the time I get a little overboard with this entire INTELIGENTZIA who entertain themselves by pointing out some word formulations or misspelled articulations on this site missing the whole point of discussion and moving the intended subject away from the forum. Of course, I respect and enjoy intensely people with a high degree of critical thinking and so on but self-importance and arrogance is something that I detest. Aura or Aurora?  Too many wordsJ. I’m over my head with words.  ( Parole parole ) Sorry.

But I appreciate your input. PEACE!

Why did you ruin the fun?

It was kind of like a real life "Clue" game.

LATITUDE
And now, I would like to end this insignificant forum if I may. Thank you to all of you for your “grains of salt” and added extras to my intended subject which was the delicate balance of integrity and ethics on this site in particular and on the WWW in general..Lets keep supporting this excellent site and Don Erik. It is really a wonderful site for the whole world to share and to enjoy it.I leave you with some words from John Stuart Mill a British philosopher: Actions are right in proportion as they promote happiness, wrong as they produce the reverse.”Let’s play Chess.   PEACE!

 to practise

You do realize that you just incorretly corrected something correct to start with, right?

shonennk

But to continue with the topic of the thread...

Logically, a team of chess.com players should win. The reasons for this being:

  1. We are allowed to use computers also, and who knows what some of the people on this site have!
  2. Power in numbers.
  3. Power in numbers for computers, too.
  4. There are plenty of ways to beat chess engines.
  5. You will be playing too, but you said yourself you are only slightly above average.
  6. We have neneko, einstein, linksspringer... enough said.
  7. Reasons 1-6, all together... how do you think it'll turn out.

As for the LATITUDE-cheater debate...

They probably are, but does it really matter? I mean seriously...

Oh, and Baseballfan... A grammer lesson? Really?

sstteevveenn
shonennk, "to practise" is correct.  you would have realised this if you had thought to check before commenting.  Perhaps you need more English practice.  Tongue out

"Perhaps you need more English practice"

Great Britain and the USA apparently differ on the practice (but not on this one). People practice their openings in the New York, but practise their openings in London. I don't know which way makes you better at openings.

Rael

And in Canada it's either!

/yay Canada

//should I practise today, or practice...

sstteevveenn
Well, practice makes perfect Smile  seriously though "to practice", from the country that brought us "just a couple things" and "could care less", it's at least as likely that "to practice" is just a mistake that got out of hand, rather than a conscious spelling difference.  Most of the English speaking world, and apparently a significant minority of Americans knows, and observes the difference.  Kinda suggests it's just ignorance to me.  Anyway, i would have left it alone were it not for the original context, as i was aware most Americans, er, "could care less" as it were Laughing
BigHogDogg

This is a stupid casual computer assisted group match.

Chess.com: Stop with the deep internal conflict over cheating, overall cockyness in proving cheater_1 is not the best cheater ever, and off topic spelling discussions.

Cheater_1: Stop using this as evidence we are all sinking into the cheating habit

I think It will be a challenge, as cheater_1 can rig the votes (although i highly doubt he has written code to automate this, he's just lying).  We have more processing and brainpower, and our computers will be more accurate, we will know when our computers are playing an inferior move more often as well due to collective brainpower.

It will be interesting.  Stupid but interesting.

shonennk

Hmm... I didn't know that.

Anyway, this is getting out of hand. Can we stop talking about grammar (spelled it right this time!) and spelling, and get back to the reason for this thread? The cheater-LATITUDE debate and the cheater_1 vs. chess.com issue?
