Lichess for playing chess. Chess.com for social

Long answer

Take what I have said about Lichess with a grain of salt. I don't have a Lichess account but guessing from what i have played as a guest on Lichess I think it is better for games or free users. But on the other hand, Chess.com is better for socializing because of the larger playerbase and the various options to interact with other people like forums, clubs, and event/collabs. While chess.com is a free website, you have to pay for some features.

Chess.com also has variants (a point which I forgot to add that some people pointed out) such as 4-player chess, Bughouse, And Crazyhouse. I also find Chess.com has a better rating system than Lichess. When I play on Chess.com my computer which is kinda old ( from 2018 ) sounds like a jet engine. But when I play on Lichess I have no such issue. I am not going to talk about the UI or the pieces Because different people like different stuff. Note that I personally prefer Chess.com because a lot of my friends are here and I like the UI of Chess.com better.

Chess.com and Lichess are both popular online chess platforms, but they cater to different needs and preferences. Chess.com is a commercial site with a large player base and a wide range of features, some of which require a paid subscription. Lichess.org is a free, open-source platform that offers a comprehensive set of features without any cost.

But I like lichess😀

hi

lichess is best

RidhimPatel

LIB (Lichess is better)

CODE_SHADOW_360_X

We can play both

One is free

Another one is not free we want to pay money

For everything chess.com ask money money money like MR KRABS

SriyoTheGreat

Both have their ups and downs. Just to give some examples -

Lichess - The Board Editor tool in Lichess and playing from any position is very helpful to me for visualizing positions.

Chess.com - Better and more helpful community and more variants.

Games wise both are equal, the rating systems and "skill based matchmaking" is perfect in both. Chess.com has a slight advantage of faster matchmaking I think due to more active members but I don't think a few seconds make a difference.

(And if anyone is making an argument about free vs paid - I have been gifted a membership once by a friend and in my experience the only worth part of it is infinite reviews, otherwise the free version is just as good)

I am top 99%, but my rating is very low here. I can't get a top 99%, but my rating is very high at other site, why? Can somebody explain.

i am low elo but the experience is the same. i was going to propose a bunch of guesses, but it may be as simple as the fact that you start at 1200 on chess.com, while you start at 1500 on lichess. it could literally just be base values. are you roughly +300 on lichess? (i am)

sicilianswiftie

chess.com has a way better player pool

Quite_Playable_1

@parogen yes +200 to +300, much higher rating on the other site. But percentile is lower.

Lichess explorer is a terrific resource. Has more games than any where else.

Sebu13

Here I like the social features and daily tournaments, but lichess has better ui, better puzzles and a better free database.

Agreed, Lichess is what I usually use for just playing chess. For variants and other similar features, I use chess.com.
