I have a free solution on how to create a chess database which I intend to use to work on my repertoire and analyse grandmasters games to see what moves they are playing currently.
- Download Scid or Chess X database software - i am leaning towards Scid as it seems easier to import games and has more features (which i can't use yet)
- Download the PGN files for each week from TWIC site http://www.chess.co.uk/twic/twic (there are 400 odd files going back to 2002 so it will take awhile, i have been doing it in blocks of ten files).
- Bulk unzip files (using 7-Zip if you require free zipping application)
- Open Scid and create new database
- Under Tools select Import File of PNG games, select all unzipped files to import them press open.
- Once you have loaded the files you can do a search on duplicate games and delete them.
Later if i find thisdatabase useful in improving my game and building up my repertoire theni might fork out the 400 bucks for chessbase and Mega database.
Hope this helps someone out as I have noticed this topic got a lot of reviews but no comments.
Hi,
I would like to create a chess database where I can review and analise games from current and past masters. I was wondering what is a good way to set and maintain a database.
P.S
I am cheep so free would be nice :)
