Chess gave me many friends and from different countries.
Chess has ruined my social life
I assure you that it is not time wasted, apply the discipline you learned and the ability to concentrate that you developed to learn something new that you can take advantage of. It's a matter of investing your energy in something else and you will see that in some way chess did help. Social life is important, but overdoing it can also overwhelm you. The important thing is to form simple social bonds. Obviously you don't play chess in a club and you don't know many people who play chess. Social life in chess is very pleasant with many surprises.
This worthless game has completely ruined my life. The time I should have spend socializing creating connections with people I wasted it studying chess, The person that taught me this game cursed me
It's not chess that has ruined your life, but the fact that you have spent too much time on it, neglecting the rest. We all make mistakes, what matters is to recognize them. No curses, just our mistakes.
You can always build a social life : you just have to manage your time well, prioritizing the important things.
The suggestion @DejaDeJugarBlitz gave you is also right: if you could join a club, it would be very good.
I often think a similar thing but then I look through my friends list and count all the people I have become friends with. I have people from school, from tournaments, people I knew a bit but thought we didn’t have much in common, people online who I’ve chatted to, even people who I have seen at festivals and other social events wearing or playing chess things and who I have then friended. Maybe I do spend too much time on this site and should concentrate on making friends at school but chess has helped me find more friends than I ever would have at school and more importantly better ones. You shouldn’t be cursing chess but blessing it.
This is my story.
Take the necessary steps to create a healthier balance in your life and focus on activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.
