Chess.com implementing the "like/dislike button"?

As we all know social networking websites have the like button and perhaps the dislike button. I think there should be some like button introduced here.

I see many potential pros in that people are able to recieve an honest feeling about how the people feel about the post they posted.

One of the cons, of course, is that people may try to undermine the ratings by purposely by always clicking on the lowest score, the lowest rating possible, or in this case disliking every post to make sure that the post at hand, gets a lower rating. Why they do this....is because of a lack of a life. These are people that probably people that don't like seeing sucess.

I also like the yahoo idea, in that if you recieve a negative enough of a post, your comment will be hidden. This would help reduce the number of troll and unproductive posts in my opinion. The only issue I see at the moment, with this is that, on the rare occasion, you may have too many trolls clicking negative, or clicking positive, making sure a post doesn't get to be seen, or a troll post sure to be seen.

I believe the facebook idea of seeing who liked the specific post is a step towards fixing this. You are able to see who is supporting such behavior and take further action if necessary.

I suck at programming, so I don't know about the timetable or how difficult is to implement such a thing, but I believe this would be a good thing for the website. One other option that could be added, is the username's rating being stated on the side, so we don't make a misjudgement.

For example, just yesterday, I saw an 1100 posting about how they are 1900 OTB. The user explained how they had a family member use the account, and that's why they are so low.  Of course, I don't know which rating (section/time control) should determine this, but it gives the viewers of the post an idea of how decent of a player is posting the article. This means people won't be so harsh to 600 if they first view the post. Maybe we should give the user the option of displaying their rating (similiar to what we display the OTB rating in the profile).

Any thoughts on this idea?

C.c dislikes this idea.

It works in reverse on Yahoo -- as soon as a post is hidden, everyone opens it to see what was so offensive.

I think this idea has been brought up a few times throughout the years. It's probably not implemented because of what you said--that some people would misuse it. As far as displaying a person's rating, just a couple clicks gives us that information alreadySmile

I think chess.com is perfect the way it is right now.

It might be a good idea to implement this in just a few categories only. It might improve the standard of the posts.

But you can keep some categories open, where there is no likes/dislikes. That way people can talk whatever trash they want and exorcise their inner demons.

So that people will know what to expect from each category.

Atomic_Rift

I think Facebook would sue.

chess.com won't like that

DrSpudnik

I don't like it already

Sometimes trolls are what make the forums fun. Seriously.

Nah I use g+ for those kind of stuff. This isn't facebook.

I'd prefer if they fixed all the bugs and glitches before adding anymore features that don't work at all or only work in certain browsers or work intermittently when they do work at all.

For instance the list of openings available for thematic tnmts doesn't work at all if you're creating a tnmt, but it does work if you challenge someone to a game and want to use a certain opening.

true! petermh5 and daeth have to be more famous than the owners of chess.com by now.

I'd like a 'dickhead' button that you can press when some tw@t runs the clock down for 27 mins just 'cos he's lost tempo after dicking around with his Queen in the opening.  Do players actually get banned for repeatedly running the closk down.  Had it 3 times tonight.

I'm suggested similar Rmemory.  I also think people should be able to downvote trollish comments.  So many people who I've played live-chess with have their profiles trolled up with all sorts of hateful comments.  Really makes chess.com look bad.

Can't you delete such remarks from your notes page?

dragonair234

I suppose! Well, Twitter doesn't have a Like option. There are other ways to show approval. But it's an idea.

I haven't deleted one of the users notes on my wall that has been racist towards another chess.com member, and cursed at me on my notes homepage...I wonder why? Kiss

Yeah but most people can't be bothered so these repulsive notes stay there to depress all who read them.
