vulpes... have a heart.  he's been wronged.

I've had but one negative experience with this. and keep in mind this is with a G30 so the time involved was more.  my opponent played badly and had a running exposed king.

there's rarely much that "Agony-analysis" can do in this kind of situation- and I expected my opponent to quickly make the only the decisions that kept the game going.

and of course, I waited and Waited.  I did say something over chat.  which was ignored... and was getting like SC kind of upset.

then I decided to just post analysis.  I was like " x to y; y to z #  Another idea blown to peices!"...

I took a comic, but thoughtful look at all the opponents play- and 20 minutes Did in fact elapse with nothing but a move or so....

my opponent could have been made or angry, but I kept chillaxed and got some practice in visualizing.   this is the only time in many, Many games that I have struggled with clock sucking.

You're right, that was bad form asking questions like that. My apologies, slimeyChef.

I usually draw pictures, do pushups, beat up the kids or, you know, Kaizan-like activities in general. I sometimes feel like I am the most efficient human being in the whole wide world. So naturally, I have a lot of free time on my hands...

Had this one bloke who applied a rather sneaky strategy; he blew the position and it wound up being a forced mate in a few moves, I forget the details.
So he waited, while I drew pictures.
When there were but a few seconds left on his clock, he moved again. I strongly suspect that he was hoping that I'd left. But I hadn't, you see. I was drawing pictures very close to the terminal on which the game took place. So I waited untill I had but a few seconds left and then I moved again.

He didn't approve, this guy. Never in my short life have I taken so much abuse in such a short time frame in the chat. You can't put a price on a good laugh, so I think the minutes were well spent.

Not in a million years will you find me whining about the premises of a board game, that I voluntarily sat down at. Meh, to each his own, I reckon :)

I kind of enjoyed that story Mr vulgarDetox

Diakonia

When i first joined chess.com this stuff bothered me.  Then i just understood that being annonymous on the internet makes some people act like an A**hole.  The internet is kind of like beer.  It gives peope false courage.  Now i just play, without chatting because im not here to be the next victim of your online psychological warfare.  After each game i go to my opponents profile, and leave a "Good Game"

90% of the time i get no response (not looking for nor expecting one) I get the rare "Thank You", and even the occasional "F*** You"

So again...why should someone hiding behind a monitor being rude bother me?  Because its the internet...

well aren't you a joy to behold, lol!! Oh and by the way Mr Sunny Shine Shine, what's wrong with hungry hungry hippos? I like that game. Who are you going to slam next...Bambi?... Dr.Suess?

If there was something wrong with Hungry Hungry Hippos do you think I would have recommended it to you? No. I suggested as a game that you might find better suited for you.

May I suggest a game for you Mr Darth? How about Russian Roulette...

Russian roulette's a gambling game. If I'm going to agree to play it with you I need to first know what ante you're putting up.

Russian Roulette : the practice of loading a bullet into one chamber of a revolver, spinning the cylinder and then pulling the trigger while pointing the gun at one's own head. An activity that is potentially very dangerous.

I agree, it does not bother me either and it's sad but true.

Correct, and it's generally played between two or more people with something (typically money or some other kind of property) at stake. So, as I said, I must first know what you're putting up as ante before I will agree to play it with you.

If you resign games when your opponent disconects and leaves the game then you are as mucg part of the problem as they are.  You just encourage their behaviour because you reward them with a win.  So well done, you encourage the very behaviour you then complain about!

thegreat_patzer

BTW, you (SC and darth) got the wrong game in matters of an insult.

it was traditionally done as a duel;  two people so many paces away that shoot a gun at each other....its quite clear what the "ante" is in that game.

this is me! always helpful....

wrong on all accounts. This post is about people who do not resign. I at least have the decency to do so and don't leaving them sitting there waiting. Nice try.

I missed it; who's resigning?

besides if a guy Disconnects the wait is even shorter.  the most trollish thing to do is to keep logged in and Not move a thing.  'coloring' , 'analyzing a won position', 'rocking to a good youtube tune' all work...

haha this may be taking it a little too far. I think I will just absorb his rude insults, like i said before, I must have hit too close to home for him with my clock suckers post.

I find it incredibly amusing that you're complaining about insults when this entire thread has been nothing but a barrage of insults from you towards others.

I'm not complaining about your insults at all, just stating the facts. As far as Russian Roulette, I'm pretty sure you can play with yourself, that's why I suggested it for you : )

Why are you so mad? Did my "short attention span" comment strike a nerve?

slimcheffy

sorry Darthy old boy, I must have missed that comment, wasn't paying too much attention to you I guess. And if you somehow got the impression I am mad...um ...I don't even know what to say about that one. Seems to me you were the one that came in here all guns a blazing, and now you are attempting to flip it onto me? Nice try.

AlCzervik

clock suckers.

fargin' iceholes.

You said you resign when your opponent disconnects rather than just do what everyone else does and wait for the win.  So yeah, you encourage them to continue such behaviour.

I do sometimes resign when it is obvious my opponent has abandoned the game. My time is worth more to me than a win. This does not encourage their behaviour at all, these clock suckers are going to continue doing what they do regardless if I resign or not. It would be pretty arrogant of me to assume I can control or influence their behaviour in any way.

X player - have you ever been accused of over thinking things? This post is simple...

Diakonia post to you was simple.

In fact, It was expressed in 5 words:

" Abandon Players save you time"

The problem is Slimcheffy you did not understand the simple answer.

Which is what you said in your post below:

slimcheffy wrote:

Hey I'm super impressed you can add 5 + 5! wow good job! Too bad the rest of your post makes no sense. How is staring at a board for 5 minutes after your opponent has left saving time? If you can make that somehow make any sense at all I will be floored...

After saying the above statement it appeared to me as if Diakonia really didn't feel like explaining it to you so you could understand.

The simply and most logical reason why is because it takes a lot of writing and effort into explaining it.

More effort than one may wish to do on a chess forum.

Instead he looked content at having you dwell in your own ignorance.

Amused at how you are making yourself look like a fool.

Which I am afraid is what people in life sometimes do to others.

I passing by decided to explain it to you.

I explained it to you so you could understand they are not sucking your clock. They are saving you clock time.

Diakonia post to you a simple phrase telling you how they are saving you time.

I post a long-winded explaination telling you how they are saving you time.

I am not over thinking things.

I am not complicating the issue.

I am providing all the facts and laying them in front of you.

If you do not see how you are saving time here than you are chosing to be ignorant.

Which is your own personal choice.

One you are entitled to make of course.

slimcheffy wrote:

It's about people who abandon games rather than resigning. It's poor manners, poor sportsmanship and violates Chess.com's fair play policy.

In chess you are given an accepted amount of time which is mututally agreed upon by both players.

If they chose to use all of it or none of it.

They are well with in their rights to do so.

The agruement you are making is they have poor manners, poor sportsmanship, and violating chess.com fair play policy

BY USING THE TIME YOU ALLOWED THEM TO USE?

The problem with your mind set is when you become a stronger player.

Stronger Chess players will do these sort of thing to psychologically throw you off your game.

Stronger players realize it is tough to win games vs other strong players.

Unless they can cause you to lose focus, get upset, enter a position you are not comfortable with, or cause you to get annoyed.

It is a psychological distraction which can cause you to lose focus on your position.

If you "worry" about what they are doing with the "clock".

You can lose focus of what they are doing on the "board".

Which in turn impairs your judge and may result in you losing the game.

You are not entitled to another person's points until you check mate them or have them resign.

Until that time you should remain focused on the game.

slimcheffy

sorry X_PLAYER_J_X, spin it anyway you want, but you will not convince me that people are not wasting my time when they abandon live blitz games. End of story.
