Don't you mean programs? Now a days a regular desktop running practically any engine would own the WC.
computers
I've had free ones, but never really used them. One time I tried to use one to help me annotate a game, but it was very frustrating. The one thing I like about them is to check a puzzle before I post it.
Oh ic. So computers are generally used to annotate games/help solve puzzles. I also heard that computers generally help teach openings? Is that true?
you can use a computer to help with pretty much anything :)
I use my PC for practicing against mostly, but you can analyse your games using a good engine too
and technically you have a computer if you are posting on here (unless you are at the library or on your phone I guess)
oh, ok, right now stockfish is the strongest free one and second strongest overall with houdini 4 in #1... I have houdini 1.5 (I think) which is free cuz of the newer versions, I play it often and have learned quite a bit
hmm, I rarely play with computers. I use them when trying out a new opening or when analyzing my games. It's because it makes me feel dumb playing 10 games with a computer(highest rating possible) and just losing at all the games.
haha i actually meant computer program like rybka.. anyways yea i play against the computer for fun, but i dont enjoy that too much
I love Chess Position Trainer for studying opening repertoir. It plays back your repertoir move by move, and you have to play your repertoir moves to each of their candidate moves. Its a great trainer.
I prefer websites and mobile apps for tactics and endgame practice, but that program also supports it. Thing is, I don't want to enter those databases, though. Much better to get new tricks and puzzles.
Hello all,
How much do computers really help in regards to learning and improving one's skillset. So far, I have not considered getting one, but I might in the future. Also, could you reccomend some good computers?
Thanks,
Rohan
