OK I'm not afraid to show my ignorance in public; what the hell is ARC?

GuardianOfTheKing

ATOMIC RIFTS CLUB.

You should get out more.

It's not a difficult concept when you just look past the words. 'arc' just denotes the inverse of a trigonometric function. If sin (π/6) = 0.5, then arcsin (0.5) = π/6.

I suspect that getting out less would have the effect you're advocating.

OK I'm not afraid to show my ignorance in public; WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SUPPOSE TO MEAN?

baddogno

Thanks.  That was very helpful.  Laughing

Oh, trigonometric functions? It's all ratios of sides within triangles. The π/6 is an angle given in radians. One radian is an arc the genth of the radius of the circle it's from. Since a circle's circumference is given as
2πr, 360 degrees is 2π. Divide both sides by 12, and you get 30 degrees =
π/6 radians.

The sine of an angle is the measure of the opposite side of a right triangle divided by the hypotenuse, given that angle as the reference angle. So, with a 30 degree angle, you get a 30-60-90 triangle. The opposite side is one-half of the hypotenuse, so the sin of π/6 is (1/2)/1, or 0.5.

It's quite simple, really.

Glad I could help!

BlargDragon, you sound like my math teacher

bunicula

Math used to considered witchcraft. Remember what they did to Joan

Though trigonometric functions can be helpful, I'd rather not do them if I can. Just to be safe, calc gets worse with all those derivatives and integral yeah. ._.

It's an unfortunate part of history. Even more gruesome is what became of her cousin, Marcelle d'Équation quadratique.

hearth_1

Did you have to put math into her name? d'Equation= Equation; quadratique= quadratic

BlargDragon

I didn't put math in her name; her family did.

hearth_1

OK . . . .

BlargDragon

Oh yeah! I believe someone mentioned integrals. Those are fun! It's been a while, though.
