I feel players may go easier on me or be distracted.  Judit Polgar, my idol, is beautiful, and I have seen her beat players as good as Anand in blitz.

After diving in the chessboard nothing can interrupt you, unless you want it.

This forum is very funny- I read it the whole way through. A few years back, I was acting as a volunteer arbiter at a kids tournament and had the hilarity of watching this teenage gem.

There was a boy (who we will call Spot, as he had plenty) playing a girl. They were both about 16, and lord, are teenagers horny... It was hard-fought tactical battle, which the girl was probably winning, until she blundered until a three move checkmating combination.

Well, they both saw it, and with a smirk on his face, Spot started to make the winning move. So what did the girl do? She met his eyes and started unbuttoning her blouse.

Yep. Really. I had no idea what was going on, but Spot seemed to understand, and I now realise his "dilemma". If he played the winning combination, the game would be over and he wouldn't have a chance to oggle the girl. But if he tried to draw the game out, like the girl was obviously hoping, he might not win at all in the tactical maddness.

So, as he almost an hour left on his clock, he decided to just sit there and stare at her chest. Man. I went and checked the rulebook to see if I could somehow stop the game, but it was just too funny... I relayed what was happening to the other arbiters and we sat around laughing as Spot stared blantantly at her with his mouth hanging open like he'd never seen such things before (probably hadn't) and the girl tried to seductive... Watching her, I got the feeling she might be very inexperienced too, but it sure rivetted Spot.

Time goes by. After almost an hour, Spot starts playing... except it doesn't mate immediately... In fact she is forced to sacrifice her queen to avoid mate, leaving him in an obviously winning position, but with almost no time. He lost on time a bit later...

They clearly thought they'd be subtle though. They looked so surprised when we all laughed at them when they came to report the results. Yeah... practically stripping half-naked, that's subtle... then staring at it, head in your hands, eyes popping out of your head... subtle.

Anyway though, that's the exception, not the rule. 99% of girls want to win because they're good chess players not because they have large breasts... and most guys won't be affected anyway, and will just keep their head down and play. And don't forget, girls can be just as horny as guys and get distracted too. Just with outrageously unsubtle hormonal teenagers do we get the exceptions...

Ah yes, they think they're subtle...

I was working around two 19 year olds who were obviously attracted to each other. On some days they even started showing up together or leaving together. This even went on for a few months. They were shocked when everyone already knew they were dating. Subtle? It's the most obvious thing in the world lol.

But that Spot kid sat there an hour? lol. "Spot because he had plenty" haha. I have a funny picture in my head of some cute little freckled faced innocent kid staring through his fingers.

Happened to me but not during a chess game. This gorgeous girl and I got to know each other but we first met in class and used to sit next to each other in class all the time and then take a third chair and put our legs up together on it and just stare at each other the entire class. It got so bad the professor made fun of us. For example, "When [her name] and [my name] are ready for the exam, I will pass it out" or like "we can turn off the lights for the presentation if "[her name] and [my name] can watch the screen instead." Of course, it was a bit embarassing but we couldn't help it or stop it. Needless to say it continued outside the classroom too and that started...

So you went to her dorm room and just stared at her.

House, she lived off campus :)...lol it was a month of staring before I asked her out. She was one of those unattainable girls, wealthy blonde gorgeous Italian girl.

It would be interesting if someone with the data and statistical knowhow could run the numbers and see if the performance is better or worse than expected in male vs. female games (for individuals, for all, for males, for females).

xman720

My instinct is that both men and women play worse against each other, and the effect cancels itself out.

It's not as if every woman or every man is attractive. And even then, there is the possibility that (gasp) you just ignore your opponent.

This is the only real OTB game I have against a female opponent. I doubt a 754 rated opponent would have any real point here, but here is the other game:

ACCA_Mohit

its natural man are attracted to woman ....some get distracted easily however chess have its own beauty ...never fadessss

JamieDelarosa

When I was younger, in HS and college, I know some of my male opponents had arousal issues. This was especially true if I showed up for a Saturday morning round with the cassolette of Fridays even's activities stll on myself. ;^)

JamieDelarosa

It happens to women too; fortunately most chess players are not alpha males and do not often smell ofhaving had sex recently.

Ariues

I would say you ladies absolutely do. I'm sure my record against women is worse than against men. In the early days of my chess career, females would burn me easily. My theory is that females play with less ego and rage than males do, so you're more precise.

I bet you pine for those days.

Doverblitzboy

Judit beats players because shes a strong GM.....nothing to do with being a woman.

Hardly any good looking women in chess, so no danger of being distracted by one, plus I hate losing!

Pulpofeira

I believe exactly 1/3 of your story.

limber_up

When playing women OTB, the best thing to do is to open an extra 3 shirt buttons showing off your manly chest. Women love a hairy chest. Equality achieved.

Pulpofeira

Or superiority, given she couldn't probably focus on the game while laughing to tears.
