I didn't know that we were forced to swear at each other, I thought it was just customary.
Does Chess Attract Angry, Mentally Unbalanced People?
I think that the OP may have a valid point. The previous site that I played Chess at had the same problem. Yet when I play Poker on-line ( not for money lol ) the percentage of nasty people seems to be less, indeed the odd compliment appears in those games.

I am not aware of any particular event be it a sport, a festival or a thing that has been identified to attract angry, mentally unbalanced people. However, they are attracted to venues that give them an opportunity to let out their frustrations. And graffiti is one of them. The posts that are being referred to here with respect to their content are nothing short of graffiti.
Ipso Facto, Chess should not be blamed for the actions of people whom Congruity is referring to.

Hm...I thought if anything that poker was worse.

Shiva..Don't you get it? He's disgruntled..Not blaming chess.Just another personal title...Yearning to name and shame..but can't..So patronising 1200-1600 is as close as he can get.

Nope, even in play money.

Watch it Sandy...Shiva thinks your a frustrated graffiti artist.
But Stevie, The Ghost Rider has made his point. Helluva difference with Graffiti Pros...

So.. do you think it is worth making a point?
Ah... Stevie.. I see your point now.... Excellent effort to make me fume and prove that I am angry and mentally unbalanced. Hmmmmm.....

Go to any Cat or Dog Show. Just as many eccentric folks there.
Balanced or unbalanced, it's all relative. Every group has it outliers.

Congruity: Angry unbalanced people are not attracted by chess, I suppose. They are attracted by the smell and the taste of blood. Normal chess-lover is a somehow "brainy-shy" soul, mentally equipped to understand and decipher ironies, an easy target to insults, a pacific onlooker of "displays of anger" (we haven't heard yet of "serial killings" in chess clubs, for instance), that is, having all traces of personality angry unbalanced people do adore to vampirize. If chess (the abstract activity of playing or studying chess) really atracted "angry unbalanced", they would spend all of their times avidly playing against chess engines, studying openings, endgames, master games, and we would not even know that they were angry and unbalanced. It happens, simply, that normal chess player is a tasty prey to the angry unbalanced predator. The hunt is not for chess, but for blood.
Russian Orthodox Church explicitly forbids chess. Professor of Moscow Clerical Seminary monk Kuraev says that the foul game stirs frustration and forces players to curse each other before the match. Also it distributes players in intelligence and thus promotes pride, one of the seven sins, lol.
