1. Kingscrusher: (He is a FIDE CM, which is higher than Jerry [chessnetwork] who is only an NM)
Hold on a minute - someone said Jerry from chessnetwork was a beginner. Are they dead wrong?
Absolutely. Jerry is a National Master.

Stay away from jrobichess, the problem isn't only that he's a beginner that doesn't understand the game. The problem is that he's a beginner that doesn't understand the game (at all) that tries to teach ignorance.
Why do you say jrobichess is a beginner when he is not a beginner? I'm really curious to know why you thought that.

He may not be a 'beginner', persay, but he's definitely not a good player at all. His videos always make me cringe, due to the numerous blatant mistakes he makes.
I do concur:
Through his videos, jrobi conveys a very energetic, positive and cheerful outlook on chess.
It might not be material destined to masters but it's enough to be a solid introduction to basic ideas of the game for every beginner.

Not necessarily...probably depends a bit on the nation in question too, but I'd say they're about equivalent. Also bear in mind that a CM has a FIDE rating in the 2200s, whereas a NM could be USCF 2400 (or even higher)...as long as they never played in FIDE tournaments and got international titles.

But his targetted audience isn't beginners! It's people who want to learn how to play the mainline Sicilian Dragon! If his videos were dealing with stuff like how to mate with KBNvK and things, he'd be fantastic at teaching beginners, but the intersection of {beginners who can learn from jrobi} and {chess players who want to learn the most theoretical openings in chess} is naturally quite small.
stop watching his video if you ever want to improve. not only he is painful, he teaches things that are just plain wrong!
i think "jrobi" has read all of this and now he has stopped making videos on youtube.....
If he stuck to "blogging and vlogging the great game of chess" or however he said it, then his videos are fine. But he was blatantly making them instructional videos and filling them full of (IMO) crap that even when the information was factual (because sometimes it wasn't) it wasn't very useful.
Could I have done better as a beginner? No way. No beginner should make instructional anything. So yeah, not a bad thing.
I am suprised none of you have mentioned ChessExplained, my personal favorite at this moment:
http://www.youtube.com/user/Chessexplained
He is a IM from germany and tries to analyse and play very soundly. Plus he is funny.
When I first discovered chess on youtube I watched Jrobi, but I swapped quickly to KingsCrusher. KC's uploads on his live broadcasts can sometimes be agonysingly slow to watch however. I prefer his 5 minute games.
But do check out ChessExplained guys, he plays very well. Compared to KingsCrusher he plays more soundly. (KC often goes on attacks based on just instincts or does not take the time to analyse his moves properly. Chessexaplained tries to do that all the time, and this enlightens me most.)
And for some very funny very silly very crazy 1minute-game commentary, watch Donnie Darkcore: he enjoys his chess so much, for example:

I watched one, enjoyed it, didn't know about this guy.
If you want to learn about chess greencastleblock is the way to go with out a doubt. He is a chess expert who makes his videos and blitzes specifically to help people learn how to play. Hes very clear and spouts out usefull information consistantly. Not only that but he is very entertaining. I have learned a ton of openings from him personaly and not only that .. he teaches a plethra of information about end game... this guys videos do not take a begginer in the wrong direction. Kings crusher however just makes the games look easy. Its impossible to blitz like that if you are a newbie or even intermediate. If you are looking to improve your chess game I would definitily check out greencastleblock
You guys are REALLY harsh on people trying to help others by spending their OWN time on making videos. If you think that they're terrible, then kindly note it, and people will understand. You don't have to trash them like they're absolutely horrid and nobody should listen to them. If you do think so, then why don't you make your own videos and prove that your words matter more than the video-makers' words.
To all of you
Talk about jbrobi's weakness only if you are the world's best player.Sadly none of you will ever be the world's best player so please shut up.
I happened on kingcrusher by accident and liked his blitz games immediately. When he's talking as he plays, he lets you know what goes on in the mind of an excellent player during a game. Some of it's funny when he screws up and laughs at himself and he shows plenty of games where he screws up. Some ofthecommentators seem to want to show only their best side, how brilliant they are. I have no trouble with his English accent,it's not upper class London but quite understandable.
