Fix sandbagging or I'm gone

You can discuss cheating in https://www.chess.com/club/cheating-forum, and I think you'll find that what you think is "obvious" is not obvious at all. I don't think their reports pick out just rematches, but they've got the ability to analyze just those and would identify the sort of cheating you describe. You can supply that detail, you know.

I did supply the detail - more than once. I don't know why they didn't bother to investigate. As I said, some I'm just suspicious I report and move on. Some stand out on how blatant it is. This is one of them. I haven't met a single person with chess knowledge that looked at the evidence I supplied and described it as anything other than obvious cheating. And that includes a WCM, and a NM that plays in the Chess Club in São Paulo.  The evidence could not be more conclusive. Or would you dare to say that shady behavior isn't at the very least extremely suspicious and worthy investigating?

@Jay_1944 what do you mean with "Very first one, first place is a complete sandbagger Lol. Of course, everytime." I won two tournamets, first one (and my absolute first one" after nearly one year of hard playing. After that, I had 200 rating points in daily more and, for shure, won the most of the time. But I would not like to be called a sandbagger only because I won a tournament.

PM me the name and let's get some other experts in https://www.chess.com/club/cheating-forum to confirm, and if they agree, we'll log with Chess.com Support and see what happens.

Just played in an arena tournament and the majority of my losses were to low rated players, sometimes under 1000, who had 80% accuracy in 3/0 games.

Sorry, that is NOT how low rated players legitimately play, especially at fast time controls. Fact: this site doesn't do anything to sandbaggers and everyone knows it. The result is that legitimate players are at a significant disadvantage and their ratings are subject to predation by people playing way under their rating...assuming, of course, that engine use isn't also present.

Leagues are a big part of this problem, because it encourages sandbaggers who get easy league points via soft pairings in arenas. Either fix it or don't expect money from me ever again.

Arena is weird. People are much better there for some reason. Probably sandbaggers but who knows? It doesn't track with the rest of the site so I think you just have to choose between regular games or arena if you want your Elo to actually mean anything.

it's impossible

a player can just create another account and keep it at a low rating then play a tournament

or they can overestimate their rating and thus drop down

tell me how you will make the 1st one not allowed and the 2nd allowed and make obvious sandbaggers and obvious good players be sorted too?

and then a player might improve drastically in another website and then get a massive spike, which would be indistinguishable from a player who just created a new account

or players can deliberately play worse than they are

fact of the matter is, you cant truly 100% sort fair and unfair players

Not to start with, but over time you can. Hence Chess.com encouraging people to play more games. If they'd just add that the seek / tournament criteria, that'd solve almost everybody's complaints about the cheaters.

Don't play arenas on chess.com. If you want to play that format, move to lichess. Chess.com's are cheater and sandbagger infested.

Chess.com has become a scam. I see players rated in the 300s scoring 500 points a day in the league. I’m looking for a better app now. Any suggestions?

My experiences with sandbaggers is that chess.com banned them within 24 hours of reporting them. I can only speak from my experiences. I hate that they cheated but am happy they were dealt with quickly. I still really fail to understand what the point of it is, a pixel trophy?

It's saved in my external hd at my parents house i backed up all my files there when my niece needed a laptop for her schoolwork. Ill probably be going there sometime by the end of the month i'll try and remember to look for it
it's really not a big deal tho even though i wrote a bible about it lol i was just trying to argue that chess.com is not as good as they say when it comes to banning cheaters but since this thread didn't get closed i'll stop talking about it

After seeing it mentioned a few times in other threads I did finally join the forum tho  thanks - interesting stuff

now back to sandbagging - how many ratings points difference to your average rating can be considered sandbagging?

How long ago did you do this analysis and report these people? Chess.com has been investing heavily in their Fair Play team over the last few years - for ages it was just @monitor, but he's now got at least 2 other people. They've also strengthened their automatic systems to the extent that the Cheat club admins will tell you that their life is a lot easier because they're confident about Chess.com's ability to identify and get those people, and they can focus on the more difficult to detect cases.

Again: how do you know? "It just is" is a statement of faith, not fact.

Yes what you did is not sandbagging at all.  My statement was ment to be an exaggeration, not an actual truth.  Of course the winner isn't a sandbagger everytime.

I think we exaggerate in the west often, where in Europe it's not common to do that happy.png I think... Never been there! Ha

Sounds like "enhanced user experience" to me.

I've noticed that I seem to be in a league. I was doing very well in it two or three weeks ago and since then I had a losing run but came back stronger. I now see that I'm in a much worse position, in that league, than I was previously. I also notice that there are players all mixed up in that league, regarding ratings. My present blitz is 1635 and I thought I saw players at 800 but there's definitely a big spread.

Both these things mean that the leagues cannot reasonably be taken seriously and that they would be a prime target for sandbaggers who, for whatever personal reason, choose to take them seriously and "do well" in them. It seems they're a "right load of rubbish" and similar to other dodgy "features" that have been lately introduced. They're silly.

If ever prize money were handed out (let's hope not!) that would mean that people's subscription fees were being used to promote cheating and I think it would send a very negative signal.
