My mobile has absolutely no chance of working with v3. A disaster.

One question, if 80% of the users hate v3, why change, dear chess.com ?

No answer......

80% of users don't hate it. There are a ton of topics and posts where staff, and erik in particular, have explained why v3 was created and why v2 has to be retired.

Dodger111

Only reason 98% of people use v3 is because all newcomers start out with it and they don't know how much better v2 is.

Martin_Stahl

Which is better is subjective. The retirement of v2 was going to happen at some point. I'm actually surprised it took so long.

Having the vast majority of active members using it makes that decision easier.

Um... so no one is going to mention that chess.com hasn't been around for 19 years?

The domain chess.com has https://web.archive.org/web/19980508214253/http://www.chess.com:80/

Martin_Stahl

Yeah, the domain was owned by the company that used to sell Chess Mentor. It wasn't a playing site.

I am 72 years old. I have been using chess.com for about 10 years. I have used v1, v2 and v3. Initially I hated v3 and for a good while I think I was justified. Two years past the initial announcement it was still a mess.

I don't recall exactly when it happened but one day I began to see that there were lots of links embedded in the interface which I had been unaware of and I started to explore. Turns out there is a lot more in v3 than in the two previous versions.

Today I feel the site has the correct balance between functionality, education and the need for it to be accompanied by social media.

Whereas I once felt the staff was unresponsive I now find them to be very helpful and open to suggestions, and I'm pleased to say some of the small things I have suggested have actually been incorporated into the interface. I believe them when they say they will continue to improve.

Never thought I would say it but, "Good Job chess.com !"

I am still amazed some people hadn't realized V2 was going to be shut down sooner or later.

By the way, I was reminded of a much better goodbye thread...https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/goodbye-chesscom

On iPad, V3 is amazing. I don't know what's wrong...

CoolOK chess.com users. Here's a place to post everything good about V2 and debate why V2 should be maintained. Personally, I think chess.com as a business should consider that by upsetting the status quo and FORCING people to use V3 instead of democratically keeping V2 for the old school, they will certainly not gain any users, only lose some. Any sensible manager would realize that  just like gravitation accumulates dust into planets, users beget users.Cool

Imagine what this place will be like the day V2 is discontinued...
