How do foulmouthed players get away with cursing on chess.com?

You Aussies have it rough. We can usually manage 5 mph (which is roughly 8 kph) over the speed limit without much problem here. Laughing Maybe even 10 if we push it.

True, and I heard they might even go zero tolerance here. (give you warning for going over even over 1 kph !)

Yeeks!

Are big cities any different?

For example, in or near Bellingham, 10 mph over would be much more likely to get me a speeding ticket than 10 mph over in Seattle would.

kco

maybe the same... but funnily enough a friend of mine from NZ who is here for a few months said to me "where the cops ?"

turkishlion

They generally dismiss the tickets up to 15 mph here if you go to the court.

Whilst I sypathize with your  complaint, I think that you are fighting against the tide.  I, personally, see no need to use profanity.

get over it. be mature, theyre just words. also blocking members is not the samething as disabling chat. you can block specific players

Being insensitive has nothing to do with maturity. Undecided

Its funny, I had the same issue with the first guy you mentioned above.  I blocked him, I believe.

Thank you very much THETUBESTER. I have been trying to convince chess.com officers but it seems they don't wanna deal with them. I am paying for this website. This is not right. We don't deserve this. Their accounts should be closed.

My last live game is with the second guy JohnRemind and I won't play chess here anymore unless their accounts get closed. I fed up with this nonsense.

I'm sorry guys but this is just ridiculous. What happened to freedom of speech? Is it really such a big deal that you need them banned from chess.com? If what they say really gets that big of a reaction out of you over the Internet.... then damn you have some other issues that need attention or something. I cannot see how this is such a big ordeal. If it offends you just block them, end of story...

You mean freedom of stupidity?

Are you serious? Are you nine? I hope by "cursing" you mean "an extraordinary fit of grotesque racially/ sexually charged slurs aimed at yourself personally", not "o fcuk, didnt see that knight there!". I don't see how anyone can do this extensively with the filter they have on chat anyway. If the other player has time to type in swears that bypass the filter you can easily "x" out the chat box in less.

Is "HELLO BUTT HOLE" fits your definition?

No one is going to get banned for calling you a "butt hole". Stop being such a butt hole by demanding that everyone you don't like gets kicked off the site. I would laugh if someone said that to me because it is such a ridiculous thing to say.

"Stop being such a butt hole"...

Now I wonder what you have to say about me gattaca ? Laughing

I need material.

rbhatnag1

How do you get past the filter anyway?

kco

don't bother.

Armonico

Gattaca, I'm sure that the people who made cruel comments were being stupid, but we cannot tell people what they can and cannot say. Obviously here on chess.com, there is no REAL reason to use profanity (though I curse all the time :)) but we cannot take peoples rights away and tell them what they can or cannot say and I will not support that. If you are offended by what someone says (which I feel should be IMPOSSIBLE on the internet) then block them, end of story, and you don't have to deal with it anymore.

turkishlion

Armonico, chess.com is closing user accounts who are using vulgar language in their either online or live chess games. They already closed one account that I have witnessed so cursing is not allowed here on this site. If someone uses vulgar language and get reported, he gets a warning or his account gets closed if he has another incident after the warning.

As far as I understand, the problem here is that most of the users do not bother to report the incidents. That's it.

Worse things happen at sea.

day_widni69

The kraken for one.

Tmb86

It's a well known English idiom, probably stems from the 17th century. You've got to admit, some of the things that happened at sea back then were in many senses 'worse' than a few swear words going unpunished on a chess website... hmm?

day_widni69

And pirates too, don't forget them.
