Just attempting to complete the tactics in a normal way (chess.com>Learn>Tactics). There has to be more than that right?
How do I improve my tactical abilities?

Do more tactics -- your profile says you've done 40 hours of tactics training (https://www.chess.com/stats/tactics/casperaangeenbrug). My 5 year old has done more than 40 hours! Seriously.
I'd suggest you spend an hour a day for the next 3 months (90 hours), and see how you're doing. If you're still stuck, then figure out the kinds of problems you're getting wrong regularly (say missing discoveries), and do custom training just on those.

Slow down. You seem more concerned with the rating, than the improvement. I looked at some of the tactics you missed, and you're not taking the time to really figure them out.
Wouldnt you rather get 1 point, and learn a new pattern, than rush?
