How is Hans doing decently in the US Championship without cheating?

Sorry to start another topic. However, if Hans is really 2400 level, he should get crushed in the US Championship. So has he found some way to cheat despite the increased safeguards? Or is he really at least 2600 level? I don't see any other choices. He could be like average in the US Championship and cheated against Carlsen and in some other games. I don't want to argue more about whether he was / is cheating. Just wonder what is going on .

So far there has been zero evidence proving that Hans has ever cheated OTB.

AussieMatey

Totally agree. And he's performing around his level of 2700 in the U.S. Championship.

DeboraghStack

Yip, I agree with those who say Hans did not have assistance when playing OTB

sounds suspiciously like bots...

Well, if he’s not cheating, then he’s probably not cheating, so…

I mean it all hinges on whether or not he’s cheating.

I am serious though. Maybe he is cheating now in the US Championship despite the safeguards. It is really strange that he seems to be playing at the 2700 level. There was all this evidence that he was 2400 without the live stream.

But keep in mind that only 5 rounds have been played,  there are 8 to go. Also, 1 tournament isn't a good enough sample of games. Maybe 3 or 4 tournaments spread out over 6 months would be a better sample to get a good average from.

Evidence? Seriously?

You should not believe everything you hear on the internet.

I am not sure If Hans is cheating or not. What are the clues to prove that the grandmaster actually cheated before, including online?

Hans did cheat online, that is not a question, he admitted it himself.

OTB: no evidence.

*If* you were a cheater in the current situation and *if* your method of cheating was still working for you, what would you do?

I'm pretty sure it would *not* be:

- Playing like a 2800+

- Playing like a 2400

You would want to play at a reasonable level that allays suspicion.  Beat Yoo, lose a tough game to Caruana.  Be what people would expect.

That doesn't prove anything one way to another, but the idea that the world will somehow be able to determine if Hans is cheating by just seeing how he plays right now is naive.  If they could not prove anything before this scrutiny, then certainly it's only going to be harder now.

Hans is a strong player, there has never been any doubt about that

He went crazy with a premature attack against Ray Robson in his current game. He'll lose soon.

He just resigned while I was typing that. He's got 2.5 out of 6 vs an average of 2694. It's still early, 7 rounds to go.

The loss speaks for itself.

Then you should delete that comment about the premature attack, haha...

It's not strictly true. An unassisted 2400 has a 21% chance of a draw against a 2700 but as the championship progresses well be able to rule out the hypothesis that he's assisted with an unassisted rating of 2400. That still leaves other hypotheses.

DreamscapeHorizons

Premature attackulation.
