How long did it take you to get to an 1800 rating?
My over-the board rating: I am still working on it. I don't take seriously anything here on chess.com. I have been playing on and off for 50 years.
I don't get to play OTB officially rated games very often. And the competition is strong.
It took me 10years to reach from 900 to 1800 rapid in chess.com just by playing and occational reading of chess articles
To the people saying they reached 1800+ in a year, did u guys play in chessclubs to? I notice some of you got otb rating.
So when saying how fast you went from signing up on chess.com dont leave out if you got like 5years of chessclub otb experience before chess.com
I got to 1800 online fairly quickly, under 1 year of "intensive" (debatable) chess study.
Otb - harder to measure. Where do we start? From when i played my first otb? Then that would be ten years.
This is for beginners aspiring to get to 1800 and those interested in data. How long did it take you to get to an 1800 rating on Rapid, blitz or bullet. For me it took about a year to get from 900 to 1800.
This quite depends, but I expect the median time to be around 2 to 3 years. At the upper quartile, the duration should be around a year long of time, while at the lower quartile, I doubt it exists (I'm sure more than 25% of the chess population fails to even get past 1500).
So… 27 years.
Over a year. Only studied watching hikaru videos. Now, I am taking it seriously and studying books and watching danya's videos which I highly recommend.
1800 online doesn't mean much. Online chess is a means to an end. OTB chess/ratings are where it's at, and I don't care how much of an elitist that makes me lol
But that's good progress. I assume OP is pretty young so it's to some degree expected, but that's still a lot of points!
