how many friends can you manage?

hi all. I am just wondering how many friends can u manage to have? more than once I've been asking the same question to a friend that I could not remember. just say a number. i think the reasonable number would be 15-20

Thats funny because i'm wondering the same thing! I would also probably think  15-20 but it's hard to tell.

I don't understand the question.  What does managing friends entail?

Much_Afraid

I have 3 people on my friend's list, all of which I never seem to talk to.  I guess I'm a bit of an anti-social chess player.  Tongue out

what I meant with managing friends is different topics such as how often do u play with them?, how much contact or closer you are with them and so on. it has happened to me that I know someone in live chess for instance, I added to friends list, but then I lose all contact with him or her. so the question is how many people can you REALLY have as REAL friends :p

You can never have too many friends.

When playing on line with someone it would be most useful to be able to have a place somewhere on the chessboard window, a few boxes available to enter some info about the player we are challenging, ...

They are handy when you are dealing with many different people at irregular times. Sales people use them a lot to keep track of leads. The smarter applications recognise incoming phone numbers and automatically open the DB at the right entry. Nothing very sinister - but arguably not a core part of chess.com either (though I would find it neat).

I appear to have 40+ people on my friends' list. It does become a puzzle remembering who's who. When a game challenge comes in, I find myself referring back to My Games Against - to refresh my memory. The proposed rollover feature will help - and some form of tagging/annotating would be ideal.

I agree... I also agree with you for that 15-20 friends is the reasonable number to manage.

TheOldReb

Mny request to be friends with me and I feel bad if I turn them down, but it seems silly in most cases. Whats the point of being friends with a person who never speaks to you just because you played one game with them ? In some cases I havent even played a game with them and they request to be friends and then never speak...... whats the point ? After a few weeks with no speaking and no chess I remove such "friends" from my list. If I didnt I would have way too many to manage......most of them never speaking ....

That's a rather ambivalent opinion!?!

hah.  that's what I was thinking.

Anyway, I only feel pressured to add a friend if we've actually engaged in extensive conversation during our games ABOUT our games.  "how's the weather in Morocco" doesn't even qualify.  And even then, I clean up the friend list every week.  I don't like seeing random people flashing on my Online Friends section.

What I'd really like to know is...why do we need to fill out a box on "why" we are declining a friendship or a game challenge.

You dont have to fill out that annoying box and I rarely ever do.

solitario2323

hola amigo espero que estes bien Cool

rooperi

I just ignore random requests, daling with that dreaded box makes me feel guilty....

artfizz

I make 10 random friend requests each week - unless I'm feeling particularly fraught - in which case I make 15.
