when we are watching a game by moving the pieces by touching right arrow key and in a certain move we want to input our own move. then it asks variation. yes. then against my move the engine plays. after a few moves i want to revert back to the original game. for this what should i do?

If you want to discard the variation and continue looking at the game moves, just right-click on one of the moves in the variation, then click on "delete variation". On the other hand, if you want to discard the variation and close the database, then click on "File --> Close", and it will ask you if you want to discard the changes.

thanks for your response

we can drag and drop the content of a database. if we want to move a few games from it what should we do?I could not find the option to move the games from one directory to other. i have "mygames" database with 300 games. I have sorted it . I got 180 games where white wins. now i want to move these 180 games to another database
"mygameswwin"    which i have created . what to do for moving those files?

If you can learn how to do database searching and filtering, then these kinds of operations are fairly easy.

First, open the mygameswwin database. Now, open the mygames database. (The mygames database should be showing in the Games List.)

Now, perform a general search on the mygames database (menu - "Search -->General"). About in the middle of the "General Search" box, there's a Result section showing tick boxes for results of 1-0, 0-1, draw, and no result. Uncheck the last three boxes so that only the 1-0 box is checked. Now, click on the "Search" button. Now, if you go back to the Games List, you'll notice that the mygames database has been filtered to show only the search results, which are only White wins. Now, you can drag-and-drop the filtered search results to the mygameswwin database.

And that's it, you've copied the White wins to another database. If you want to undo the filter on the mygames database, at the bottom of the Games List box, click on the Reset button.

Another method if you only have a few games to copy: In the Games List, highlight the few games to be copied, then right-click your mouse and select "Set Filter". Then you can drag-and drop those few games to the other database.

Now I am able to search for a particular criteria and find out the games.

I have twic1117. I made a search for draw and no results

I got 709 games as the search results.

Now if i want to permanently delete these games what to do?

I am able to select pagewise games and delete then compact will do the work. but how to accomplish this task at one go?

Once you've filtered the games, just open the Maintenance Window, click the "Delete filter games" button, then click on the "Compact database" button. Another box will appear, and then click on the "Compact Game File" button.

is it possible to bring FEN games into the scid database. how?

Martin_Stahl

If you have a PGN with FEN positions in it you can import it just like normal games. If you have an individual string, you can create a new game and the import the FEN. Don't recall the exact menu though it is one of the first ones.
