Hurry! I'm about to close my account...

I'm not implying that anyone should care.  I seem to recall in another thread somewhere, however, that as an outgoing member, it is my duty to entertain the community with a year-long thread before I actually quit.  Unfortunately, I don't quite have that much patience.  However, in order to keep as much as possible  with the respected customs and traditions of the venerable community of which I have had the great privilege of associating with, I will keep my account open for a week after this OP in order to converse.  During this period, you may freely criticize, sympathize, mock, plead, implore, etc...  Each to his own style.

I suppose at this point, some of you may be puzzled, even distraught.  "Why," you ask, "what would bring you, dear valued comrade, to such drastic, regrettable measures?"  Well might you ask.  I will try to put it as simply as possible.  I am addicted.  I no longer enjoy the great game, and no longer see it as a worthwhile waste of my time.  "Don't worry, you'll be back, mark my words," you say?  Well that may be true.  I actually did already quit before I realized, woe betide me, that I had failed to carry out all the procedures required of one in my unenviable situation.  I had to come back and do it properly.  I may later feel remorse for cheating the genuinely good-humoured chess community out of the year of amusement that is rightfully due them and be compelled to return.

Others of you may think, "Aha, another socially inept personage seeking attention with his corny publicity stunt."  Corny perhaps, I grant, but here I digress.  As I have already explained, I am merely performing a humble duty as expected of me.

So, alas, you have now read my eulogy of a chess addictie.  But take heart, fellow lunatics.  Think not of this as a time of sorrow, but as hope of a brighter tomorrow as I graduate from the class of mediocrity to greater heights of reality.

Cheers,

A disillusioned chess addict

Yes and what a fine example of someone that obsessed over 1 thing in life.

Well everyone has an obsession, sex and sports just seem to be the socially acceptable addiction.

I quit for 15 or 20 years, and look where I am now. Maybe 632rocks will also change his/her mind years from now

  Bravo!   Well done!

After you leave, don't look back.  That's where many make their mistake. Smile

Rocks, how about adding a countdown clock to your demise on this site?  I think that would add an original and interesting touch to these farewell posts.

Hello rock,

well, I think you should reach a compromise, I mean you neither have to be addict nor quit this game. Chess is like alcohool. Your decision is somewhat right, there are things in life more enjoyable than playing chess.

Good LuckSmile

Don't forget to complete the termination questionnaire ...

10) Have you ever been reprimanded or disciplined?  If so, for what, when, and who disciplined or reprimanded you?

13) Have you filed a complaint with the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) or the Texas Commission on Human Rights?  When?  Have you been issued a Right to Sue letter?  When?

17) Are there any witnesses to what happened to you? What did they witness?  Would they be willing to give a statement?

You neglected to change the font of "Cheers, A disillusioned chess addict" from Times New Roman to Trebuchet MS before pasting your Word document onto your post.

Next time you quit, click Select All before you change your font.  Sheesh, for Christ's sake, edit carefully when you announce you're leaving.

;)

Very observant.  However, I wanted my signature block to be unique, kind of like a signature. ;)

That would be cool.  I'm not that tech-savvy though.  How do I get one of those set up on this page?

I am glad you finally took care of your chess addiction. But my 50+ yrs addiction is what keeps me going.

Be that as it may, (only) 8 + yrs. of chess addiction has been one thing has has held me back, ironically, even in chess.

Nice wishfull thinking.  That's like saying you neither have to be addicted to cigarettes nor quite smoking altogether.
