I am ridiculously bad at blitz

@Zborg I'm good at premoving. How exactly am I BS? Look me up on the USCF registry. My USCF number is 14636284. I am Dennis Norman, 1811 USCF. What would I possibly have to gain by making stuff up? This thread is getting ridiculous. All I wanted to know was if other people have had this problem (which seems so), and what I can do about it.

Don't worry dp, the forums are full of pathetic smartasses

And people desperately trying to get your attention.

Well I did not come here calling the OP bullshit, but go on ...

About 4 months ago the cheats truncated the Standard rating distribution at @1700.

They might be playing havoc with the Blitz distribution at the present time.  That a conjecture.  Nothing more.

Since Chess.com used a Glicko system, roughly the same as the USCF, that's one possible explanation for the 300-400 point rating point cycle that (too often) seems to occur when playing at Blitz time controls.

That's been my experience of late.  Other folks are welcome to chime in.

But please, spare us the long-winded posts about T1 through T5 data and "evidence." After 4 years of reading that stuff in the CF group, it's mostly just obfuscation.

It may also have sth to do with what you've used to. I'm not a veteran chess player at all (just started a a few months ago) and after losing a lot to my friends in what we called fast chess, started playing here some blitz and I was just awful, putting stuff on prise all the time and getting panicky and couldn't think at all. I've also discovered that when solving problems my solving time is always worse than average. People suggested I play correspondece chess here to improve my chess and I seem to do good in that department with plenty of time to check many possibilities but still my games with friends, although tangibly better, haven't improved that much. I haven't played blitz here since I started to study chess more and I still fear that I will not be able to play decently so I shy away from it. For those who doubt this guy there's a good example in Fabiano Caruana: Rapid #1 in the world, Rating 2856, Blitz #69 in the world, Rating 2679.

....so I have company.

Wow that's a silly line of reasoning :-)

You're getting around today, @Alive.  Not enough action on the homefront ?

Chewie1200

It a whole new ball game with time controls.  blitz=think fast

ForeverHoldYourPiece

Alright Dennis, I'll give you the straight juice of blitz.

TACTICS 90%

Openings 9.9%

Everything else 0.1%

And how could a horse ever compete will all that skin ?

"Better in every way" ??

whatbecause

If you're really set on improving at blitz (it's not the worst idea, some of the principles will transfer into OTB play), I'd suggest doing some tactics at either the tactics trainer here or chesstempo.com, I personally prefer the latter and especially setting it to blitz mode when the time taken counts. Tactics will get you a long way in blitz/bullet. Also, know your endgames! You probably won't have much time when you're playing them, so make sure you know what you're doing and what you should be aiming for.

@KirbyCake lol I play in one of the least inflated areas. DC metro area. I go to Baltimore and DC for tournaments. I don't think my rating OTB is inflated. I've played in some big and well-known open tournaments with hundreds of players: Atlantic Open, Eastern Open, Potomac Open, etc.

Go to USCF rating lookup and enter Dennis Norman. My OTB is 1811. 1670something for quick rating. No blitz history.

How about checking your facts before making offensive statements? Which also don't help answer my question, btw. And why would I possibly lie about my OTB rating? Look it up. I played this past weekend in the Baltimore Open U2100 section and got 2.5/5 against a bunch of >1900s. I deserve an 1800 OTB rating.

Notice the difference between you regular OTB rating, your quick OTB rating, and you blitz on www.chess.com. Guess what: you are simply not a fast thinker.

The difference between the two of us is that I post the truth while you post nothing but worthless comments and immature insults.

Im better than you in every way.

Isn't that insulting?

OP.  Being bad at Blitz chess is one thing, being a bad-tempered, bad-game-playing spiteful human is something else.  Live and learn for yourself.
