Open with your central pawns. e4 is a very good move to start out with for example. Develop all your pieces to the center. Move each piece only once until they are all out. Castle quickly. Ill show you a diagram showing what type of position you should strive for.

Play a lot. Over here there is a rating you can use to help interpret challenges. Challenge players with similar ratings to get an even contest. Challenge players with way higher ratings to learn from your opponents play. Find some friends who are stronger than you that you can go to with a game you have played so you can ask where things went wrong.
