You cannot take the "crazy" from Fischer as that is part of him. And being "crazy" would be part of his downfall against Carlsen.  I think even at his best--Fischer would lose badly. [if he would even play--which he wouldn't]

Bobby Fisher vs Magnus Carlsen
Bobby Fisher
-Considered the greatest chess player of all time
-Former world champion
-First player to reach a 2700 elo
Magnus Carlsen
-Current World Champion
-Highest rated player of all time
-First player to reach a 2800 elo

Both players are incredibly good and most of us talking about this would have no chance of beating these two chess players. But I think Magnus would dominate by winning 70-30 and here's why:

First of all, Magnus had a way easier and better way to study. He had the help of supercomputers and the database. There's a rumor, that Magnus has 10,000 games remembered in his head. Bobby had a way harder way to study, since he was born earlier. Bobby had to read books and didn't have what Carlsen had. I think Bobby is the greatest chess player of all time, but Carlsen is the better player and is more accurate. The reason why people say Bobby is the greatest, is because if you put him into any era, he would dominate that era. Magnus would be able to beat anyone in a 100 game match, but if you put him into the same era as Bobby, he would get crushed by Bobby. So my final result is:

Magnus 70 - 30 Bobby

There was a study where they analyzed the best of all times' games. Carlsen ranked 1st. Fischer was like 4th or 5th.

So Carlsen probably should win.

They did a study? That's cool and this whole debate is probably settled.

From what I have know of both fabulous players.....Magnus had 21 draws against GM's.

Fischer had 20 straight wins against GM's. Fischer,by a bit more than a nose.-happy.png

.......and meanwhile , in Chess Heaven , the best player ( Paul Morphy ) is patiently

waiting for Magnus , whilst Bobby ( Joint second-best ) is patiently waiting for

the 2 K's .  ( Garry and Anatoly )

...especially Anatoly.

( But not too soon , Gawd forbid ! )

I give it to Fischer, he was dedicated and wanted to win, I don’t believe Carlson has the same drive, give Fischer modern technology and he would be even better then he was in the 70’s

Fisher and Tal can do things beyond 'normal' chess knowledge and ability. They had an ability that cannot be taught or seems not to be taught @ chess skool. The games they would play vs. Carl's Jr would fascinate us as I think they would force Carl's Jr to up his game to their level - he would be elevated to that level of vision that would then make him the ultimate chess human. I don't know how to describe it correctly. I'm sure many here have felt like their own game went up simply because of the energy (sorry for that term) of the opponent, or sometimes playing down to the level... Fish and Tal would find moves to shock Carl's Jr but wow him into a higher chess game.
