thank you borgqueen......you are the only one that can understand may question..you got it.but i have another question.....my question is and for me you cannot use the word strategy in the sentence if your sentence has no competition because the origin of the word strategy is come from military...and some people copy this word and use it in the sentence even though their sentence has no competion and this is wrong.for example some people use this word like '' im building a house and my strategy is like this and that this is wrong.and when can you find the word ''escape strategy'' right? there is no such word like this right?.so what is your opinion about this? i wait for your answer.

The word had origins as a military term a very long time ago but as with many other words has evolved and through the English language can be used to communicate ideas far removed from any military context.  However in a poetic sense using the word would still have connotations with some sort of military manoeuvre but this does not mean it is wrong to describe the plan to build a house as a strategy.

Who knows perhaps sometime in the future the word will evolve into something completely different and be used to describe a person who likes to tap-dance on top of very tall buildings (almost like the transition of the word gay, which having once been a popular way of describing someone who is happy, now refers to their orientation)

e.g. "She is strategy"

Which dictionary are you using?

hazenfelts

My dictionary says it is a noun and describes it as, 'A detailed plan for achieving success'

I suppose you could simply say that a strategic position is one in any game in which there are no immediate tactical shots for either player.

Marvin2

it means a planned game with the use of human resources

The answer to the second question is implied -- the smarter people watching the movie would know that just positioning their craft over common areas would not acheive the best result.

I think that's where kurokug got lost...

chessandlaw

In the military context someone, I forget who, said that tactics was about winning battles and strategy about winning wars.

In the world of chess, at least at its higher levels, you have to decide if you are going to "play the pieces" (adopt a tactical approach) or "play the man" (adopt a strategic approach).

The fact that computers can now beat anyone and "don't know their man" suggests that chess is essentially tactical.

I just want to ask,  If you have already made up your mind about the meaning of this word and how it is properly used why do you keep making forum topics asking for a definition and then completely disregarding the advice you are given in the next topic you start?  The way you command the English language in your posts shows that you are not quite as well versed in it as one would expect you to be if it was your first language.  On that assumption I must applaud you for trying to increase your knowledge and understanding of words from a foreign language but, and I hope you understand, now that all these questions have been answered, if you go on to begin a new topic, disregarding all the advice you have been given here and asking the same questions whilst simultaneously repeating what you believe you know the answer to be, it would be considered quite rude and disrespectful.  Of course I'm sure you would not want that to be the case and encourage you to carry on your study of words and there usage.  Seeing how you appear to have really thrashed out the word, 'strategy' how about a different word relating to chess, maybe, 'tactic'

Sort of comical in a way, meant no offense with it all just... enough with the strategy, I think the word has well and truly been defined thanks to Kurogkug's reconnoiter nature (now there is a word that is only supposed to be used in reference to a military procedure) (perhaps a teensy bit out of place, maybe reconnoiterious would be a better word, albeit a made up word by myself - meaning: A description for someone who refuses to give up trying to find the answer, even after it has been presented to them. Repeatedly.

PS I'm only doing a bit of light ribbing I hope it isn't taken too personal as it is not suppossed to be, feel free to comment on how silly my photo is or how ugly I am or something (perhaps not here though private message them or people will get angry) what I'm trying to say is that I can see how something as impersonal as a forum post can be taken a lot more seriously than it really is and in mine I'm trying to make a light hearted point seriously UndecidedLaughing

goldendog

I don't see the value of investigating the word "strategy" for a beginner anyway. All the most basic things needed to be tackled first.
