Bro, I have been stuck in a cave of losing many times before. It isn't just 5 games it is many games that are just loss after loss. If I quit then then I wouldn't have seen a rating increase I have now. These times are normal for everyone and if you quit during one of them it won't make your chess situation better.

1300 isn't a high rating but it's better than when I have thought about giving up because of so many losses before.

I’m with Misterloco76. I’m really just trying to learn to be decent. I have played on and off for years, but since joining this, I’ve grown to realize that I need a lot of work. Misterloco76 has it right. Stay positive, surviving defeat makes you stronger. Trust the climb!!

Lol, does this mean I'm worse? Listen buddy. I used to be on 255 or something. But you see, I used to be real close to 300. I was like, "YAY IM GONNA REACH ITTTTTTT" but it turns out I noticed the people started to get real hard. They did some hard tricks and I would end up resigning or getting checkmated. So thats how I got to 255. I was raged, just like you I was thinking of giving up, I couldn't reach my goal. But I tried. And I'm on there. In other words, I made a massive comeback. I dunno why, maybe fate decided to be nice but it doesn't matter. IN fact I right now have lost more than I have won. (THANKS TO ALL OF THAT RESIGNING WHEN I WAS A NOOB >:C)

I would not stress over it. Losing is normal and a 5 game losing streak is nothing.  You got hit with a couple of forks, it happens.

I also think 185ish game is too small of a sample size to form a concrete conclusion. I think a 1,000 games is stronger data.

Good news is you have respectable stats like scoring a 55% winning percentage when playing e4. I noticed d4 you are break even so I would personally drop that opening, but that’s just me. You’re defending well as black, just a touch above 50% winning.

Puzzle rating in line.

Take a break, cool down and get back at it.

stop complaining.

Look at how many games I have lost.

Not once did I consider giving up.

Pull yourself together and keep up the grind.

1000 is just the beginning man, you’re about to close the book just when it starts getting to the good part!

Watch lectures on YouTube, keep doing your puzzles, perhaps pick up a book or two, play through Master games featuring your favorite opening(s)

Many strong players have said they study considerably more than they actually play.

It is not as fun, but put in enough hours of study and you will see your rating increase significantly.

Come back stronger than ever and crush your enemies.

You got this! :)

Dear thoughtspace,

I am a certified, full-time chess coach and International Master, so I have seen it and tried it all.
There are so many ways to get better and I know it can be overwhelming.
You can learn from free videos on youtube, there are books at your disposal that can all help, but they are not tailored to your needs.

One of the most important things you can do is to analyze your games! You must learn from your mistakes! That is a priority. You can't really move on to a new, different topic and learn new ideas if you still make the same mistakes over and over again!

This is where a chess coach comes into the picture. A good coach can show you how to study, what to study, gives you the material YOU need. Naturally, it takes time to use everything in practice, but if you are relentless and persistent you will succeed!happy.png
You should learn the main principles in every area of the game (opening, middlegame, endgame).  Don't focus on only one part! You should improve your tactical vision as well as it is part of all areas!
This how I built my training program for my students. We discuss more than one topic during a lesson so it's always interesting and they can improve constantly. I give homework too and the right tools to make practicing enjoyable and effective!happy.png
Don't worry about your rating and the ups and downs! Just keep on playing and practicing!

I hope this helpshappy.png I wish you good games and 100+ extra ratingshappy.png
