In search for a book on an opening that I'm studying. Please help

I'm studying the ruy lopez as deep in as, what in the end, they call: Ruy Lopez Closed

The Eco number is C88 if you need to look it up. If you have to....please.

Any book will do even if it's an old one. One on this specific opening would be ideal, but if there's nothing else, any book will do as long as it has a section on this opening. I already have the "play the ruy lopez" book by andrew greet but it only talks about unusual moves and the worrall attack, or as he calls it, "the worrall system." I'll study that one day but I would like to study the ruy lopez closed for now. Is there stuff on this opening on the internet? I searched and I could only find stuff like the berlin defense and other variations (on many that I now have forgotten, therefor I can't name) I'm searching for the ruy lopez closed. Ok. Thank you. Bye. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Honestly if you want something extremely deep on such a broad subject then MCO or ECO is probably your best bet.

Granted, it's not super deep, but you're talking about a subject matter that is practically infinite.

AndyClifton

Naw, MCO and ECO are just a bunch of lines.  You should get an actual book about the opening...whichever variation it is (I'm afraid C88 doesn't tell me much).

AleksofCanada

AndyClifton, it's 1.e4 e5  2.Nf3 Nc6  3.Bb5 a6  4.Ba4 Nf6  5. O-O Be7  6.Re1 b5  7.Bb3

I probably should've included that. I think I need a book. Or something off the internet

AndyClifton

Well, since the Marshall is still up in the air there, it's probably going to be hard to find a book for that position.

You do what you do pellik, I do what I do. I'm not going to argue with you. Why don't you not write back to me and be nice like chess.com asks you to be when posting replies. If I weren't a bigger man, maybe I would've gotten discouraged in chess just because of your reply. Did you not think of that? Where's your sense of good gesture? Why don't you behave well? So if you are going to reply to me, be civil k?

AleksofCanada

After all I just posted this topic to get better in my chess. Who cares if I'm not gonna get better? And is it my duty to tell everybody what is my strategy plan on how to get better at my chess? Sigh

Some people.......

AndyClifton

Actually, I thought pellik's remark was pretty funny...a bit self-mocking (and with more than a hint of truth to it).  Lighten up a little, OP, and don't just listen to the advice you want to hear.  You might find you improve more that way. Wink

AleksofCanada

Does anybody know which Eco number is for the marshall attack so I can look it up?

AleksofCanada

AndyClifton, do you know? (about the eco number?)

AndyClifton

Sorry, I used to have the whole set of those things but I lost them the last time I moved. Frown

@op : Your line is basically the Ruy Lopez main line and can still branch into a bunch of variations.

A good general book on the Ruy is 'Mastering the Spanish'. However, I feel compelled to tell you, like Pellik did, that such a book may be a relative waste of your time at the moment.

AleksofCanada

Oh well

I beleive that 80% of your chess study time should be devoted to openings. I have a low rating because I basically don't know any openings. This is the first one that I'm going to know about! About that 80% thing, that was what dzindzihashvili said in one of his videos. I didn't beleive it when I first heard it. Oh well. Oh well......

AleksofCanada

I'll look up the mastering spanish thing in my library (it's a big library so maybe I'll be able to find it) I'll scan it and read. Maybe your advice was useful about the waste of time ;) I'll have to see for myself if I later decide to buy it.

AndyClifton

If Dzindzi said that, I believe he's pretty much alone in saying it... Wink  Unless maybe he was talking about young titled players and their researches.

Mastering Chess Openings by John Watson is interesting. It also covers how to play positional chess, and to learn the significance of structure.

azziralc

In the books I give, there's also an Ruy Lopez opening. :)

BillytheKid9

silman's   'complete book of chess strategy'  i dont know why he calls it complete because more than 50% of the book is solely based on openings and opening variations and the variations of those variations.

Thanks nyLsel :)
