It doesn't take long to learn and becomes easy and interesting soon

Chess is not just the best board game but the best game.  It is better than any sport, board game, card game or hobby ever.  This because it never gets boring always new positions and interesting problems to solve.   It just never ends

No.  Chess is a great game, but go is older, simpler and better.  I've been playing it since I was a kid, and I have never lost a go game to a non-Asian in my life.

Second only to Candyland, for obvious reasons

That's an odd question.  You just assume many people here are chess fans?  Why didn't you ask if football is the best sport of all time?  Or why not ask if Casablanca is the best movie of all time?

Paint your wagon, Inside out, Condorman... there are lot that are way better.

Actually he's doing the complete opposite. He is not assuming that people here are chess fans, and his questions may bring out the people who play here casually vs seriously.

Oh I see.  The question was a clever attempt to identify the casual players among us.  I get it now.  So if I had answered, "Monopoly," I would've given myself away as a casual chess player.

.. 'Micro-Soft' uploading, Error .. - 'New Zealand's, famous, "All Blacks," rugby football team ; Is composed entirely of 'caucasians' and native, 'Maoris'. ..{not, that it proves anything, ethno-centrically .. which it doesn't}.

But the above has absolutely nothing to do with the forum topic, which, come to think of it, is a good thing.

Of all the board games I know, I like Chess the best.  I have not seriously explored Go, which my college roommate from Taiwan preferred to Chess and where he taught me a simple version to play.  Even though it doesn't involve different types of pieces, etc. it involves complicated strategies of encirclements and, if I had grown up playing it I might also like it best.

.. Japanese, chess, {or 'Shogi'}, is a 'blast' to play ; Though, I studied it, with a 'universal' notational 'set'; That did Not, thankfully, involve memorizing, 'Japanese' script, {including, facing you, 'upside down', on your opponent's pieces}.

.. Their 'parachute', {captured piece}, 'drop' rule, {as an alternative, to making a 'move' with your own pieces}.. Both, insures, its' complexity.. and, Not being a 'cinch' for 'a.i.' software, to solve.

Chess is a nice mental excersise, like sudoku, or calculus problems, but it is actually quite horrible as a game that you want to play with friends and family. After all at a party with more than 2 people 1 person is left out to watch from the side.

Dai Shogi is only 15x15. You're probably thinking of Tai Shogi, but even that is only 25x25. That picture is Taikyoku Shogi.

Shogi's pretty fun and kind of overwhelming when you're not accustomed to drops. Also, the memorizing of characters isn't really a problem. Think of it this way: in Chess, you had to memorize the shapes of the pieces to tell what moves went to which pieces, right? Shogi's no different, conceptually.

Yes. Best board game. Best video game. Best sports game. Never gets stale.
