This was a game I finished today. It is also the first game I ever annotated. I would love if you could give me some advice towards improvement. Thanks a lot.

This is my game from the first leg of the 2019/2020 swedish grand prix, the cellavision chess cup. This is a tournament were players from 13 diffrent nations were represented. Only swedish players are counted in the overall standings in the grand prix. The tourament was played with round 1-4 beeing rapid games played with the time controll 15 minutes + 5 second increment. Round 5-8 were 90 minutes for the whole game with a 30 second increment. This was a very dramatic tournament were 3 players were tied for first place on 7/8, the bucholtz score decided in favor of GM Alexei Shirov giving him his 3rd consecutive victory in the cellavision chess cup. I had a quite decent tounament, scoring 3/8(rapid 1/4,classical 2/4), +13,6 in rapid rating and +19,0 in rating. My only win in the rapid was against a player with the rapid rating 2136 and because my rapid rating is so terrible  (1339)
that is techically a 797 rating point upset . It was enough to  give me the upset prize for that round.
The reason i picked my round 7 game is  that it shows some imaginative ideas and technical errors ending with my opponet blundering in time trouble.

Hello Jesse, thank you for your analysis last time. I have since then won against Ashley. Heres another match I have played in a tournament in the start of August.

Hey Jesse -

Clearly my opponent blundered and was instantly losing at move 17, so I'm not asking for a whole game analysis here.  What I want to ask about this game is specifically regarding the question of "which Rook to move, and when?"

At move move 14, I played 14...Rde8 with the ideas of pushing the e-pawn as described in the annotations.  But here,  S-fish recommends 14...Rhe8 with the difference being my move giving the edge to white and the engine move roughly equaliizing.  The question of "which Rook to move, and when?"  seems to be a common issue with aspiring players.  Can you spend a few minutes talking about how one decides between Rook moves when, during a game, either seems equally playable.

Thanks -

Mitch

Hi Jesse,

I had a few games this month worthy of submission but I think this game is thematic for my pains with Caro-Kann. I won but many moves I thought were natural were, in fact, inaccurate. The accurate moves transposed to normal-looking Caro-Kann lines, familiar to me and very solid for Black.

Thanks for the show! It's the best!

I would like to post an OTB game for GM Kraai to review, but I don't know how to do so. Can someone please explain it to me or point me to a posting or thread that shows how? Thank you.

I can try to help...  Do you already have a pgn file of the game, or just your score sheet?

I just have the score sheet. I don't know how to get a pgn file, and I think one won't be available. The game was played earlier today. It was from a quad at a chess club in NJ.

1) go to this page:  https://www.chess.com/analysis

2) enter all the moves from your game

3) click save

4) copy the URL/web address from the bar - this is your saved game.

5) Jesse's going to want you to annotate/enter your comments for your game.  To do that:

5a) right click on the move on which you want to comment.  you'll get a pop-up menu of options (comment before, comment after, etc.).

5b) enter your comments & click save - recommended you save after each entry...  it's just a good idea.

Let me know when you've done all that and I'll tell you how to share your annotated game back here in the forum.

Good luck!

Thank you. I have set up and annotated the game, and am ready to share it. I still need to know how to set up the players names, date, etc.

This is an OTB game played on 8/25/19 in Round 3 of a quad at a chess club in NJ. I won my first two games (yes, even I win occasionally) but played like an idiot in this game. The time control was 40 minutes with a 5 second delay. My opponent played a solid game, and if this is any indication, he has clearly outgrown his rating. These were the first three rated games I have ever played.

mgt3, your help is much appreciated!
